Hello,
Newcomer in this sohc fours owners family here.
I always loved bikes and especially those of the 70s.
Really helped here, I have got to say, by my dad, and by a comic we have got here in France called "Joe Bar Team".
(I just checked, it has been translated in english, if you never did, read at least the first 2 or 3, they are truly works of arts...)This is baby me on a kettle with my dad:
Anyway, since I was like teenager or even earlier (I am early 30s now) I dreamed about the CR750 Daytona.
So now is the time for me to build a replica for the road.
Yes I know big project for a starter and being only my second bike and not knowing much about mechanics.
I guess i will have the engine redone by a pro and concentrate on the rest.
I don't know if I did well, but I found a "cheap" 1978 CB750 K7.
SOCH with spoked wheels and 2 front disk-brakes...
It was supposed to be a runner, or easy to get running again; but for now it is a non-runner.I am waiting to have the garage cleared from my landlord stuff to start tearing it appart and try to start it properly.
(should be early March; fingers crossed)
I knew it was going to be more complicated than with a K0-K6 but it was cheap, 15km from me and relatively cheap ... couldn't resist.
I have questions if you don't mind about this whole K7 "problem" of mine.
I read here and there that most of the parts for CR750 replicas are K0-K6 compatibles.
I know the frame is a bit different and stuff but...
For CR750 parts, someone here already bought from https://www.bikeside.de ?The parts seems fine and sometime cheaper than UK sourced ones ...
They answered to me some weeks ago that their CR750 tank can be fitted to a K7.
I am a bit in doubt, the frame mounting points are so similar or some heavy mods will be needed ?(I know changes are needed in the battery/oil tank/electrical area and the seat.)
Do you think I can find fairing or tank in used condition for cheaper ?
(I never saw some for the moment.)
And do you think I can find a narrower alternator part and cover, but doing the same job of running the bike and charging the battery ?(I guess this is a recurring topic but I wasn't able to find a clear and precise answer for a "with battery-road legal bike".)
It will be a clean "look alike" bike, but I will definitely not buy the pricey rear brake hub, engines mods or pipes.
And keep the engine stock, I guess.
My aim is to have this kind of lines and colors combo(and to be road legal):
The only change to the idea pictured above, is the seat.
I do not want the "kit" or "race" seat/tail. I would like the more right-angled one, like the "Sumiya" tail here:
By the way; if any of you know how/where to find some bodywork like this one ... I would like to hear from you.
(I found everything, in different countries, prices and shapes, from tanks to fairings; but never this tail piece...)
For the beginning and less cosmetic parts:I will get back to a checked/restored engine in stock conditions.
Do the same for braking system, wheels, fork, electricals ...
Transform the (bad condition) K7 pipes in dechromed megaphones and cut them.
(no problem with that; they are K7 ones and not mint condition.)
Change brake system hoses to more robust ones, install clipons bars ect.
Change commodos ...
And obviously the rest, the CR part. (metal tank, fairing, seat, tail bodywork ...)
The list is long.
If you think of anything wrong, or not in the right order, please correct me.
I know i am more attached to cosmetics rahter than strictly mecanic stuff right now, but hey, I am a newbie.
And if you know where to start ...
I will clarify the rest in my head and get back to you.
(I have some questions on precise topics about street legal CR750...)
PS: I am happy, I already found (mostly here) answers on some of them,
like how to have the fairing bracket on without welding it to the steering column; stuff like this.
Sorry for my english and the long presentation. I will probably have a topic started in the relevant subforum during the next weeks.
