1971 CB750 Tank (Honda) emblem removal
« on: February 19, 2020, 06:12:35 AM »
Is there a trick to doing that, i just dont want to end up bending it or breaking it. My other CB750 is a 1978 and it actually screws on that one..

Not sure what the difference is between years but my 76 side cover emblem  has the push on washers with the 4 tabs that grip the emblem stud.  I used a jewelers screw driver to gently pry the tabs off the stud just a bit so they would come off (you usually only have to pry two adjacent tabs, not all four.)  You can flatten the washer in a vice or pliers and reuse them.  The tank emblem has very small inserts that go in the holes in the tank emblem mounting bar.  The emblem studs go into the inserts.  The stud expands the insert which grips on the emblem mounting bar.  The emblem can be gently pried off and the inserts then pried out.

Use something slim and wide, no srew driver that can cause dents.
Stick it in under the badge and bend just a little, then do a little from other sides.

Slide fishing line under the ends of the badge, slide it up to the pin and wiggle pulling forward at the same time. Repeat at the other end.
Trust me I'm a Nurse, I promise it won't hurt....much

I have a spool of very thin, stainless steel safety wire. I use it as described for fishing line. Be patient and keep working both sides of both studs, evenly....... Good Luck

Those fine covers are worth to get new badges and diamonds.
