Questions about dropping oil pan in k7

1977 CB750k - I tried searching old forum posts and couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. I'm looking to drop the oil pan and replace the gasket and clean the oil filter pickup screen. does anyone have either a video of the process or can anyone direct me to some sort of reading material that would show me what do look out for or check? Seems pretty straight forward with this bike I just wanted to be sure of what I'm gonna see under there before I go tearing in to it.

If the pipes are stock: you will have to remove the 2 inner pipes so as to reach all the bolts. Then it's pretty straightforward to pull the screws and pan. The oil pump's screen will be staring right at you when you do.

What makes you think that you need to do this to it?

Nothing in particular! Just want to check out the state of things. It was garage kept but pretty much abandoned and runs well right now with no knock or weird noises/hiccups. I installed a magnetic drain plug and had a little bit of fuzz stuck to the magnet. Although to be fair, it was the first oil change it had after 50 or so miles post-resurrection so id imagine that's to be expected. Few little glittery spots in the oil but nothing that I felt looked alarming. But because of that I figured I'd make sure the pickup screen wasn't gunked up or anything. I should probably clean out the sump tank too, huh?

If you are going that far i would do all of the o rings and seals over on the oil pump  ( especially if you have a low oil level in your tank after sitting  )   This kit is THE ONE  to get .  He has the screen available also .

Oh hell yeah! Will do! That's a solid kit. yeah I definitely wanted to make sure everything looks good in there and there's no chunks of anything sitting in my oil pan lol refurbishing the pump just makes sense!

Decided to just check my oil pressure before going about rebuilding my pump. Glad I dropped the pan though, there was a bunch of sludge and gel-like old oil. Only one tiny flake of anything magnetic. Also, I'm glad to know now that my pickup screen isn't clogged with old oil or sludge. Everything looks pretty clean up inside. From what I can see

I envy you, I got to scrape 1/8" of firm grey sludge covered in black oil off my oil pan!  But the screen was clean and the seal still seals.

Ouch! Those ridges don't make scrubbing easy either! The outside of the pan is giving me trouble, lol. Im still pretty new to this stuff. It's my first bike, self taught mechanics, I'm only 24. Wasn't sure if there were any scary warning signs in the pan or not

Pielz, that milky sludge is caused by oil mixing with water.  Once you get to the point where you are riding regularly try and make sure to always run the bike long enough to heat the oil enough that the water burns off.  If its cool or cold out, it might take 20 miles.  Then you won't have that milky stuff.

Ah gotcha! Thanks! I appreciate that knowledge. I'm anxiously awaiting the warmer weather so I can ride this thing as much as it deserves. I have a whole bunch of parts from another user on the way to rebuild some things.
