1972 CB350F engine separation problem, sticking
« on: February 24, 2020, 09:34:12 PM »
I got all the bolts out on this 350F engine, but the clam shells are not cleanly separating.  It is hanging on the front.  Is there a trick to move the cam back and forth to free it up?

I have a good 2 inches separation on the back and 1 inch on the front.  Hanging around the tensioner area.  I have not resorted to being heavy handing and beating it to death but it is getting close.  Maybe I should grease up the cam counter weights and see if that is the reason.

Thanks for the assistance.

You mean the crank instead of the cam?
Lay the engine upside down and lift the bottom off....on its side the crank can indeed hang up on the sides.

It wouldn't come that far apart if something was still attached. so you probably have the cam chain tensioner seized up and hooked around the crank, in my opinion. or a combination of that and the chain. Try cutting the chain and slipping it out

Problem solved.  I had to remove the primary shaft per shop manual.  Well you tug at it every direction you can and then finally read manuals available sometimes work.  At least I didn't start drilling or hammering it.   I need a more professional C clip removal tool but it is very close now.  Thanks for the advice.
