plugging ports
« on: February 25, 2020, 08:35:23 am »
I want to pressure wash my 750 motor before I start some disassembly. The exhaust and carbs are off. What would be an effective way to plug uo the intake and exhaust ports?

When I prepped my motor for cleaning and painting I used 1.25" (I think that was the size) rubber end caps with hose clamps.  The kind you find in the plumbing section a Lowes/Home Depot.  Make sure your exhaust nipples are seated tight otherwise the water can get in where the coper crush washer is.  I would avoid directly blasting the rubber caps just in case.

I use the mushroom shaped corks from my wifes wine bottles. they fit perfect and seal air tight. and she has plenty of them!

I used condoms on the exhaust spigots one time...seriously!  They worked too!  Plus, you can turn the engine with the kickstart and do a condom inflation compression test. lol
If it works good, it looks good...

Size 8, #52039 Hillman Rubber Stoppers (I think Lowes has them in the US). Top size is 1-5/8, bottom is 1-5/16.
