Topic: Rick's reg/rec. 14-100 with Motobat gel battery?

Hi guys,

bought one of these Motobat gel batteries and fried my reg./rec. while connecting it... think I switched poles... yeah, don't tell me  .

Nevertheless, I need a new reg./rec. and was thinking to upgrade to Rick's solid state, instead of buying a 2nd hand part for 50Euro's. In future I might want to change to a Lithium battery. Now Rick's 14-100 is the one for Lithium batteries with a limited voltage (14V), but it says not to be used with lead batteries. Pls. advise if I can use the 14-100 with my Motobat gel battery. I would think that the lower voltage will not do any harm.

Not advisable, lead acid need a higher voltage to charge

mmm, since I want to stick with the side covers anyway, perhaps I will keep the gel battery. In that case the only remaining question is: should I go with a 2nd hand reg./rec. for 50Euro's or get a Rick's 10-100 solid state type for 120Euro's (shipped)?

+1 on the Oregon part. I bought one and yet to install it but heard nothing but good reviews.

Sorry to hear. Those Motobat terminals lead to mistakes easily...
