"Interesting" ride
« on: March 17, 2020, 05:10:19 AM »
I went for a ride today to the top of Mount Baw Baw (Victoria, Australia). I was on my Suzuki Bandit 1200, and my riding buddy was on his BMW 1200GS. On the way there we almost ran over a small brown snake, and my mate went sideways on a wet corner covered in leaves. On the way back, we almost ran over a big tiger snake, I hit a rock in the middle of a corner that really unsettled the Bandit, and a kangaroo jumped across the road in front of us. It sure helped take my mind off the coronavirus!

Good for you Trevor... it's always good to have a successful practice in dodging bullets. :)

In the last mile of a recent 1300 mile drive to our winter vacation site, I found myself following a Bigfoot pickup truck at 75 mph as his oversized muffler and oversized connecting pipes disengaged as a unit from the truck and dropped to the pavement in front of me. I had a vision of this 75mph 7 foot long unguided muffler becoming airborne and impaling my car, my windshield, myself. I moved a couple feet to the right as I watched the muffler sliding straight down the center lane then checked my blind spot and took the rest of the right lane. As I passed the muffler it was starting to turn, but was still in the center lane and sliding not tumbling down the road. I don't know what happened behind me, I didn't see or hear any big commotion, bit I was at my exit and overjoyed to be there.

I rode my old Harley  Sportster to the Mad Max show in Maryborough on Saturday, I'd overtaken a slow moving car in a series of 35_40 MPH bends at around 80 when I dove into a corner too deep, and put it in the gravel.

Luckily the old Sporty is a much more capable bike than I am a rider, and I was able to edge back onto the lip of the bitumen and continue on my way, happy that I was still alive. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks mate, the spinal injections the previous day worked really well, and I must have had a tail wind all the way, but it was a lot more gruelling and cold, and windy, on the way home. I'd do it again tomorrow though! ;D

Thanks Mark, did you see the message I sent you awhile ago, about me wanting to buy one of your ignitions? I've only got (new) points for my K2, so I need a cool gadget! Cheers, Terry. ;D

When I was a kid, me and a couple of friends cut a bicycle tube, filled it with sand, and tied off both ends. We tied fishing line to one e nd, and hiding behind the fence, we'd drag it across the road as cars approached.

Drivers would either swerve around it, or try to run it over, but we were having a great time until t he cops showed up and ended our party..... ;D

On a similar mischievous note, in grade school, my hang around pal and I would on on occasion tie fishing line from trash can to trash can on opposite sides of the street. Then we’d hightale it to the biggest bush we could find a few houses away with clear eyeshot of the cans. First car to come by.....you know the rest. We’d laugh like we were drunk it was so funny to us.
We also fashioned a dummy out of jeans, a Pendleton shirt and a stuffed brown grocery bag for a head and just left  it in the street...not as funny as the trash cans, but close.

I have hit a big rattlesnake before in eastern Oregon on my 82' V45 Sabre. My friend behind me said the head whipped around and almost got the back of my leg.

My riding buddy startled the tiger snake on our ride the other day, and it reared up. It's head was at ankle height as I rode past. I instinctively lifted my foot off the footpeg!

Thanks Mark, let me know how much total with shipping to Melbourne, and your Paypal stuff, I still have to sort the geearbox lock up, but it was running fine on points alone, so should go even better with your box of tricks. No worries about the virus, I get stuff from China all the time, and so far, so good......... ;D

Back in the 90's I was sitting on the crapper reading a bike mag, and my wife knocks on the door, and tells me the neighbours across the road (one of the few non-miltary families, they were school teachers, and hopeless at anything non-classroom related) wanted to borrow my shovel as they had a tiger snake in their yard?

It was around 9pm and dark, so I put on a pair off shorts, walked out into the middle of the road and they were standing there, looking at me. I said "Where's the snake?" He answered, "Beside you" I look down, and yep, a good size Tiger snake, maybe 6 feet long? I smack it with my shovel, and that just hisses it off and it strikes at me, so I smack it again, and as I'm getting traction, the shovel is going "Clang, clang, clang" on the road.

I finally smote the serpent a final deadly blow, and got a round of applause from all my neighbours, who'd come out when they heard the fearsome battle. I casually picked up the snake and dumped it in my wheelie bin, and put my shovel away, victorious.......... ;D
