KO Throttle cables
« on: March 10, 2020, 01:16:16 AM »
I have had a new set of these for some years and finally got round to replacing them today.
At some stage the cable for number 4 carb had been pinched between the frame and the tank which is why I had the new cable waiting for its day. (See first pic).
Pretty glad I changed them as the cable at the business end (twist grip) was badly frayed too, to my surprise. (next picture).
Another area of concern is where the single cable meets the (junction) tube that contains 4 cables (following pic). Yes that nasty bend in the cable.
I was thinking after the job was done if perhaps I should have cable tied the junction tube to the underside of the coils to try to eliminate this nasty bend happening in the first place.
Wondering if any fellow KO owners have done something like that.
It is the first time these throttle cables have been changed which is not too bad considering the bike is 50 years old, not that great though seeing it's only done 15,000 miles.
I can see why Honda dumped this cable set up with the K1's.
Cheers

Moe......  this installation on my K0 bugged me too. Never seems right. From memory, my 4-1 barrel is ABOVE the coils (as high as I could get it, and the 4 separate cables drop into the carbs from as high as possible. The tank kind of pushes them all down a bit. If you want, I’ll lift  the tank (it’s empty) and take a photo? I hope others will comment too.

I'd sure be interested to see it above the coils if you don't mind.

Factory routed cable through triangle, my cables had same damage, this is better.

I always assumed it would rub the tank if I went over. It does make nice gentle bends. I always wondered if there's a small spark plug boot that would fit over the 4 carb top fittings.

Hi
The K0 carbs are supposed to have rubber boots over those carb-top fittings. Part number 16194-300-304

They're between $9 and $11 each, when you're a cheap a ss like me you wonder if there's a plug cap that might work. Not saying it's not worth it to have them right.

Yes mine were routed through the triangle. Your set up looks nicer on the curves. Like Don I would have thought the underside of the tank would interfere.
Do you run the single cable over or under the rubber tank mount?.
You also seem to have your main electrical harness routed differently to mine, I can see it in front of the coils, but not to the rear of them.

Moe...... checked mine, I routed it over as in the photo above. The main cable fits snugly, above the fuel tank rubber. My cables Honda cables came with the small boots for each carb.

Thank you Benelli, looks like I might have to re-do them.

Took the tank back off today to consider the options.
Although I can see merit in 69cb750's alternate cable route, was not convinced about the cable going to number 4 carb. Plus do not really like the idea of the possibility of the tank pushing down on the cable junction tube.
Looking back at my original cables it was only the cable to number 4 carb that had got pinched at some point that looked bad. As well as the single cable as it leaves the junction tube.
So in the end I cable tied the junction tube to the underside of the coils. It did improve the situation a bit.
I guess time will tell.
