I'm 63 years old and have never understood why and thought it was silly when the weather forecast is calling for snow and some possible bad weather people jump in the car and rush to the grocery store and start stocking up and buying double or triple of what they usually buy and when bad weather is the issue most of the milk and bread has disappeared for some reason. Everyone knows what I'm talking about. Its just me and the wife at the house now and we go to the store once a week and sometimes we don't go for 2 weeks. My wife went to store this Saturday morning to pick up and few things- 1/2 gal of milk, coffee, etc and she called me and said honey you won't believe this but the shelves are empty

no toilet paper, no paper towels, no napkins, nothing. With the news of this coronavirus it's automatic panic mode for a lot of people I guess instead of taking some precautions and using common sense. I had heard stuff like this was going on but you think it can't be that bad until you see it for yourself. I guess the ones that do this are thinking I don't know how bad this might get but as long as I can still take a dump and have something to wipe my butt with I'll be just fine

I'm not making light of this virus by no means just how some people respond to it. If everyone would buy how they normally do instead of being stupid about it everything would be fine. I feel better now I'm done.

Agreed. It's the "I got mine, screw everybody else" attitude, and all the shortages are a self-fulfilling prophecy. People assume that everybody else is going to buy up something they may or may not need right now, so they buy a bunch of it themselves just in case they can't get it in the near future. When everybody does this at the same time the supply chain can't immediately react to keep up, so we end up with manufactured and unnecessary shortages which then makes people panic even more. It's ridiculous.

I just received a firebird assembly manual from Seattle after a 2 week wait and sheet metal parts from Florida. I did wash my hands after opening them. L0L!
Toilet paper my asz, I stocked up on tube steel so I can do some fab work in the shop in case everything shuts down. One case 50 miles away so far.

much the same in england , no toilet rolls or pasta anywhere . i assume the virus gives italians the #$%*s . have just had a series 3 landrover chassis delivered so when work goes dead i can keep busy .
i will be fine but i worry for local businesses , some wont survive this nonsense .

My wife works at the school district, they shut everything down for 3 weeks. Don't even know if their regular pay checks are going out. Beyond that the ripple effect is mind boggling, people's kids at home with the parents at work.............bad combination.

Local stores around here are rationing how much you can buy in regards to TP, hand sanitizer and so on. Too little too late I suppose because the TP and hand sanitizer shelves are still empty. A guy I work with was at his Dr's office the other day, his Dr was telling him how he had a big bottle of hand sanitizer on his counter. Apparently some patient of his stole it.

63, just like me. You and i have never seen anything like this in our lives.

We were told to stock up, i did a bit. But chuckle at the toilet paper thing.
I expect food, gas, and all esentials will be fine.

This is a big one, and any of us with lung issues. Pretty dam serious.
So i guess i really dont agree with some.
It has just started, i wish the great group of people here well.

Eggs for bread.
Toilet paper for eggs AND bread.

As Gordon was saying..same thing happening here in Colorado..almost verbatim. Was talking with Jerry Griffin about the same phenomenon yesterday (he's a pharmacist..I'm retired dentistry) and we both agree that this panic buying is over-kill..and most likely due to instant communications w/alarmist slant..driving it.

Also since the CDC in U.S...and WHO came out last Thursday declaring this a "pandemic" [the CDC saying people should 'stock-up' on things like T.P. non-perishable food items] that seems to have exacerbated this whole thing.

However in Japan (where I spent 5-months in summer)..they seem to not be freaking-out like in the U.S. (can't speak for E.U. but doesn't seem quite as pronounced ?) If viewed from a statistical perspective..compared to the 7+ billion people on earth presently..the 6,000 that have died..and 157,000 reportedly positive for Covid-19..this doesn't even approach the level of 'pandamic' in real world terms (not to diminish the sense of compassion for those that have actually died BTW).

Most know that as with all cold viruses (which Covid-19 is..only more virulent for us oldsters..if contracted) good hygiene..washing hands regularly..using hand sanitizers and limiting time spent in public places where large groups of people congregate will significantly limit the spread of this. After which time..the general population will have developed natural immunity/resistance..further limiting the spread.]

We needn't be foolish about taking reasonable precautions..I suggest..and as detailed above. But I hope that after the 'panic mode' has subsided here..there will be a lesson learned about the dysfunction in over-reaction to things like this.

You mean that you have no long time storage of toilet paper!!! ??

If your house is located near a forest with wet smooth moss, no problems !

I bought 3 km (36 rolls) a few days ago! Our freezer is usually full anyway.
Forgot to mention, double layer, not the sh!tty single layer.

I have hoarded up with plugs for my bikes before Brexit where plugs cost 1/3 of here. Min 70-80 plugs

NGK and Denso.

Vitamin C aka Ascorbic acid important to stack up with.

I been using my hand the past couple days. Wal-Mart was still out yesterday; checked absorbing acid; all gone; checked vitamin c; all fawk’n gone! Wal-Mart and Kroger can’t keep enough on their shelves!

I’m guessing a roll of toilet paper is going to bring good money on eBay!

My Walmart is closing at 11pm and will reopen at 6am till further notice. Had a near riot at one near me. I went today to get some milk and other small items. No paper products, little meat, only a couple containers of milk. canned goods nearly gone. Our Sunday paper had a article on the front page about not panicking, followed by 9 pages of doom and gloom. For example: What will happen if the hospitals are overwhelmed by sick people ? WTF ?
