M unit horn stays on
« on: March 14, 2020, 04:25:53 PM »
Got the RR all hooked up and installed a new horn. Reattached the battery and the horn is wailing, regardless. I mean even with the key turned off, the horn is still on And there is No LED illuminated on the m-unit. At first I thought it was somehow getting hooked to power, but it’s not. The switch (momentary button) isn’t engaged and when I pull the horn lead from the m unit output, it stops.

After disconnecting the horn, I used a test light and it’s still on. I bet this has been draining my battery.

I haven’t see anything like this in m-unit troubleshooting.

Usually the M-unit will sound the horn to bleed over voltage.   Hows your charging system?

I just installed a new RR and haven’t kicked the bike over yet. I’ve gone through three dead batteries (one of which melted in the trickle charger).  I think the RR was installed incorrectly. But I also think the fact that the horn stays on, even when the one is off, was draining the battery dead so the trickle melted it.

It now with a new battery, the horn just stays on. Is there an m-unit setting for this?
