Are you happy with just one?
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:38:20 PM »
now's your time to brag  ;)  ...

i have 2 and what i've always called a half... the more time i spend on ebay though, the closer the half nears a full bike  ;D

so, to clear up how you should vote... if you're in the process of making a bike roadworthy... count it as one, i did  ;)

I wish I had a lot of bikes. But then if I did, they probably would not get the work they needed. I want 2 more then I will be done.

Own 3 CB750's now, had about 40 in past 9 years. A 2nd bike good to have during down-time for working on your#1 ride.

Well, I've got a '75 Triumph under a tarp (no where near running condition), a '78 Yamaha that I've ridden the last few days, a '78 Honda Four.  But the wife has a Shadow, so do we vote as individuals, or households?  If households, I ammend my vote to 4.

what do you think guys?  household or individual?
do you ride all of the bikes yourself?
did you get your household's bikes back on the road?
did you purchase the bike for an other?

wow, this could get complicated!

Almost 2 but the 74 Ducati 750 hasn't arrived from California yet so I can't count it.

Most I've ever had at once was three bikes, two of them SOHC CB750s.

I had at one time 7 bikes. Actually it was no fun at that many and I sold some. I am not that rich to keep all of them in batteries, tires and insurance. It also takes allot of time keeping them polished and otherwise maintained. I have 4 now, and that is more than enough!

I used to think 3 was the ideal number, but things seem to creep up on me, and now I have 6.  As I know people with even more, it doesn't seem like that many, but on the other hand, people would be apalled at how little I make $-wise.  Sometimes I think back to when one bike was plenty... sounds stupid, but a lot of things really do seem simpler looking back (even thought it never feels that way at the time!)

I'm up to four now.  Two running and registered, one running badly and un-registered, and one in pieces.

I voted as a "couple".  I have ridden most of the bikes, not the 750F2 though. It is too tall and I tend to suffer from duck's disease (ass too close to the ground  :D)

MY count is 3
cb750F1 -rebuilt/roadworthy but not ready to fork out the huge insurance premium just yet
cb250N - picked up a few months ago - registered with new chain and sprockets - good fun bike.
1986 gsxr1100 - trying to get it running - bought for $250 -needs some tlc and dollars thrown at it - will definitely sell this one (yeah right)

My count is holding at 6 until I move into my new house in March, after that I cannot say what could happen.  The only rule I have about adding to the mayhem is it MUST be considerably different than anything I already have, keeps the ride experience interesting.

Just one more and I'll have one for every day of the week, tempting...   tempting...   must resist!!!

Last summer I had 7, but I've thinned the herd down to just 4.

1.  1973 Honda CB350F
2.  1990 Honda Transalp
3.  1993 Honda XR650L
4.  1993 Honda XR650L

They have all been ridden this week.

I've only got one, but I'd like a second larger bike with a full fairing for the interstates and cold weather.  I don't want anything that I don't ride regularly.  And I used to think that life couldn't get better than when I was scrapping the pegs on my 250.

Own this one only and I'm happy with it , I love it, but would like to have a dirt bike and also something brand spankin' new. I gave my old SL100/125/150 to my nephews a long time ago. It was great for trail riding in northern Michigan. I'm not quite trusting my CB or myself (GHOF) for long distance riding these days so (dreaming now) I think an ST or FJR or Interceptor would be nice.

Ugh, you made me count them.  Yes, there are 12 here.  2 are jump on and go right now.  3 out in the storage shed need dusting and have the battery reinstalled to drive about.  2 others would be rideable with a couple days work each.  3 are "rescue", projects in waiting with part on hand.  And 2, I admit, may never run again, and simply offer parts as needed, though they look whole at the moment.

Yes, I really should sell some.  But, I LIKE them.  And, deserving people who would appreciate them are hard to find around these parts.

I *am* studying the concept of advertising, though.  And, in a few months or years may actually give it a try.

Five right now.

'76 CB400F - Daily rider
'76 CB750F - Soon-to-be Daily Rider while the 400F gets "freshened up"
'75 CL360 Scrambler - Bought for the Fiancee to cut her teeth on bikes.  In my name, so I'm counting it.
'70 Trail 70 - Runs, but needs work.  Gonna go all through it and restore it as a practice for my cafe project.
'80 CM200T - Basket case.  May never run again.  Engine locked.  Thinking of trying to free the engine and get it running it as a clunker to bum around in the fields around my house and when it quits, that's it.

Not counting the '70 CB750 rolling chassis since it's not quite a "motorcycle", but it WILL be, oh yes, it will be.

Well, it's like this, I've got 1 that's running but needs new tires and carbs cleaned. I've got 10 that, with some parts and work, will be runners (motors turn w/comp) I've got 10 that need LOTS of work (along with parts). And I've got 5 that are disassembled. I think I've got the number right. I'll have to double check and get back to you. I picked mine up by trading around, buying some from a small salvage
for a small price and got some given to me. To date, my highest expense has been the sidecar for my 80'CB750K. I know that, when I really get into these projects, that will change. I had others that I've sold (3- 81' XS650 Yamahas, 1- 85' TY350 Yamaha and I traded a 71' Suzuki TS125 for an early 60's 250 Jawa)

In one shape or another, my collection includes:
     a 74' CZ175 Street bike; a 73' H-D Sprint (minus motor & electrics (Promised to bucky kat); 73' Hodaka 100cc Road Toad (sold); Honda- 80' CB750K w/sidecar, 80' CB650C (2 now), 78' CB550K, 77' CB550K, 73' CB500K, 2- 74' CB450K7s, a 74' CL450K6, a 70' CB450K3 (450 stuff in negotiations), a 75' CB400F, a 73' CB350F (sold), a 63' CB77 (305) (grown into enough to build possibly 2 bikes now), a 62' CL72 (250) (traded) and a 69' Z50A; Jawa 250, a 56' 50cc; Kawasaki F-9 350 Big Horn (sold)  Suzuki- 2- TS400s (most of 2 bikes), an early 70's TS 185, 71' TS125 and a 73' RV90; Yamaha- 75' XS650B, 73' TX650 (sold), An 81' SR500G, a 75' DT400B, 2- MX400Bs, a 73' RD350, an 84' RZ350 (complete rolling chassis w/ gas tank and seat), a 78' DT250E, a 78' DT175 (2 others in parts)  And I've got an 82' Gold Wing (parts job) coming
Now, remember at least 95% of these need quite a bit if work and a fair amount of
parts. Also remember, you asked. Let's just say that I have a habit of picking up strays and leave it
     at that. ;D
                                                        Later on, Bill :) ;)

     I now have 5 runners: GPZ1100, CBX, '80 CB750K, '80 CB650C and '72 SL350K2

When it's all said and done, I hope to be down to:

      the '80 CBX, '80 CB750K, '79 CB750A (maybe), '80 CB650C (maybe), '72 SL350K2, 60's Jawa 250, '72 CZ175 and Jawa 50

At least, that's my goal.  ::)  ;)   Still too many for me to easily keep up with. :D
