I like pie ! Was going to do a peach but might be getting late in the season.

We are getting peaches from California and Washington.  They usually come first before the Colorado peaches.  The fruit buyer where I buy mention that the Colorado crop may be in short supply due to frost.  Later we get peaches from Michigan.  We recently had excellent Bing cherries from Door County WI.  There are a few micro climate areas in Wisconsin and Michigan near the Great Lakes that can grow things like these that normally don't do well in our climate. I have to bake three peach pies today for family.

I also have more time for my urban foraging.  I get plums and Juneberries (Saskatoons) from a friend who has too many.  Mulberries from a neighbor's tree.
Black raspberries from Theo Wirth Park (a large wooded park that surrounds my neighborhood) plus my own patch.  We go through tremendous amounts of rhubarb so I have a few friends who supplement my own crop.  This year I found a source for pears (which I have to go pick today) and for sour cherries.  Black walnuts I get from my own two trees.  Those are a hard nut to crack but I have this vintage cast iron walnut cracker.  This spring was the first year I tapped the black walnut trees for 8 gallons of sap to make syrup out of and managed to get 4 little 8 oz jars.  What does not go into pies goes in jam along with store bought fruit that does not grow in our climate.  My latest jam is a pineapple pepper jam made with serrano, jalapeno, and black pepper.  I got the recipe from the owner of a tiny beach resort in Mexico where we stayed this winter.  I go through large quantities of jam myself and make about 100 jars in a year so there is plenty to give away to friends.   Visitors to my home leave with a jar of jam of their choice. ;D

Yeah, it seems that snide political comments from some on the right are okay but when there is push back from the other side it's not ok.

Nobody is forcing anyone to read this. If it causes such a strong reaction (!) perhaps you should just ignore the thread.

That's actually not a fair representation. And are you accusing me of poisoning discourse here? Forgive me for airing this, but you made a racist joke in a thread about Mexicans (my wife is Mexican and my son will be Mexican) two months ago, I called you out on it, you ignored my post and DMs, and then you doubled down on it before moderators erased your thread. So it's a little rich to accuse me of "poisoning," unless you think racism is OK. I also don't lob personal insults like some others do, although, like others, my personal politics sometimes shine through my comments -- perhaps not as much as others though.

It's also perfectly easy to ignore this thread. There are tons of threads that I ignore, and it doesn't seem to ruin my experience here. People make a choice to come to this thread, people can make a choice to ignore it as well if it pisses them off. It's not, as you imply, the only thread on here.

Can we not just stop with the bickering?  I don't think that's too much to ask.  If someone can ignore a thread they don't like then they can also ignore a post they don't like.  Nobody is required to read a thread, and nobody is required to respond to a post whether they agree or disagree with it.

This has been a good thread with a lot of good discussion.  Let's allow it to continue.

I think Steve started the thread "How has your life changed" with "your life" being the operative terms. Maybe a personnel way to share things about your work life or family or other experiences affecting YOU since the pandemic hit. I don't think he meant to start it to create a bunch of Facebook style bickering and blathering, blame gaming, second guessing or posturing according to political beliefs. With that said hope all are well and healthy and coping with the inconveniences as well as possible.

The CDC has announced that although the official death toll from Covid in the USA is expected to pass 200,000 by Labor Day. It has also announced that the rate of death in the USA is 8%-12% higher than the usual rate, lending credence to underreporting. Things aren't getting better.

I asked about schools the other day -- but I'm curious about people's work. With universities, some plan on cancelling in-person classes by semester, others by a "wait and see" plan that may allow for opening mid-term (although honestly, that's not likely to happen). I'm curious what other kinds of workplaces are telling their employees who are working from home. Is there a timeline, or is it wait and see?

I also know there are plenty of people who never got the chance to work from home and have been going in the whole time. I have a friend who's a teacher (K-12) in AZ and she is being told she's got to come in. She might quite -- which would be a damn shame.

Terry, what the heck are you adding in to that ginger brew your bootlegging down there ??   ;D ;D

Ha ha, well as we should be talking about what we're doing to weather the pandemic storm Eric, I've pretty much mastered the art of making extremely alcoholic all natural ginger beer that actually tastes good too. Yesterday I realised that I didn't have enough left of the current batch to last me until the new batch is bottled and "matured" (another couple of weeks) so I bought a case (12 pints) of "Ginger Joe" my original favourite to bolster the numbers, and cracked one straight away, and was immediately disappointed.

I mean it's great that mine is so good, but it kinda reminded me of the time I met Australia's greatest V8 Supercar driver, Peter Brock, only to find out that he was a rude self centred arsehole, and came very close to punching him out, which wouldn't have gone down too well with his thousands of fans......

Years ago my cousin (and my best friend) showed me the remains of a couple of Puch 250 "Twingles" that he bought with the intention of restoring. I've been hanging out for a two stroke bike for awhile, so I asked him what's happening with them, and he told me I can have them, for free. Woohoo! Apparently a guy pulled them apart to restore them many years ago and stored all the small parts in tea chests, and sadly there was a flood, so most of the small parts have been destroyed, but he thinks that most of the big parts are there, so hopefully I'll be able to make at least one good bike out of the two. There were heaps sold in the US under the "Sears Allstate" brand, so plenty of parts on Ebay.

I won't be able to drive to my home town to collect them until after the lockdown, but that's ok, it's something to look forward to when all this sh1t is over. Here's a pic I stole from the interwebs of what mine will hopefully look like once I piece it back together. If anyone here has a cache of parts, let me know? ;D

Another project? :o

Are you familiar with the story of the Winchester House Brian? The widow of the heir to the Winchester fortune built a project house, had builders working on it for years and years, adding floors, re-doing entire wings, teams of workers continued to work on it 24/7 for many years, because Mrs Winchester was told that as long as the house wasn’t finished, she would continue to live. The way I’m going with projects, I’ll be at least 150 before I get carried out of my garage, feet first..... ;D

The Covid-19 effect for me is NO holiday in Greece or Spain. :(
Last years All-inclusive hotels on Greek island Crete. 2 weeks in the sun, blue warm sea, lobg beaches and lots to eat and drink.

We enjoined to have a short camping trip which was fun with strolls in the nature and climbing a mountain, 2 1/2 hours up.

Positive to enjoy our garden home, repair windows and still get the important sunshine.

Save holiday money to the dark winter.
If not invested most of it in CB750 parts since it is difficult to stop changing, upgrade. :D

This can be the future holidays, stay home, visit warm sunny places wintertime like 2x 1 week between November-January.

My 4 weeks vacation ended yesterday, Friday.
Work start on Monday, working from home making it possible to have my coffee breaks in the garage where my bikes and ongoing projects are. :D

Working from home or working at home have small and significant differences! ;)

Thanks Bill, I've never owned one before, when I was a kid one of my favourite bikes was the Jawa 350 California, I'd still like one if I can ever find one for the right price. ;D
