A few numbers from everyone's least favorite downer...
There are currently 167,000 confirmed dead in the USA from C19. That's one out every 2000 people.
There are currently 5 million people who have been confirmed infected with Covid. That's one out of every 66 people.
A couple weeks ago, the CDC issued a report based on antibody testing that said the number of people infected could be as high as ten times the confirmed amount. That's one out of every 7 people. Not likely, I imagine, although with the variation of infection rates in different areas, it's not hard to believe it might be that bad in some places.
A sheriff in Marion County Florida has banned his officers from wearing masks, and banned visitors to the sheriff's office from wearing masks, while both Marion County and Florida are setting records for infections and deaths.
Meanwhile in New Zealand, a country that successfully shut down the country, had reopened, and had 102 straight days without an infection, they discovered 4 new infections in a single family and immediately reintroduced a lockdown for a few days in Auckland and reintroduced social distancing in other major cities.
With a population of 5 million, that's one death per 250,000 people -- just for comparison. Although there has been some grumbling there, there is not the kind of anti-science, anti-mask movement that can be seen in some other countries. I imagine Kiwis are justifiably proud of the way they and their government have handled this.
