Anyone try an aluminium side stand ?
« on: March 07, 2020, 04:15:50 PM »
I bought one of these a few years back , but put the bike it was going onto on hold.
I liked the colour choices, the weight,  and the fact it could be polished.
But....... don't know how well the pivot would hold up, and wether it would slowly bend or just snap clean off.
If it snapped off, it would be so not worth it.. see pic

BTW, it was going  to be no heavy lean and no sitting on bike while on the stand if I tried it. !

They came and went, real quick. I remember them, but I don't know what happened with them.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Ducati uses an aluminium one, on at least one model.

I have this on my CBX.  Sturdy as, and height adjustable.  I reckon it looks pretty neat...

I added an aluminium extension to it, and had to put a bronze bushing in the CBX mounting tab.

I've got the same one on the vmax and if it'll hold up 270kg of lard arse Japanese muscle then it'd be fine for a 750
I use it as I've shortened the forks and the stock sidestand was too long and had the bike nearly upright when it was parked, it only fell over once but that was enough

But I think the one you're looking at is a cast alloy version of a stock shaped one, I'd put money on it snapping before bending
i blame Terry

it all depends on the type of alloy and the heat treatment . to be honest though frank for that price i expect it will be rubbish .

I would say its forged.. I have not yet tried it.  . The key is not to sit on the bike while on the stand.

The CBX one is just too big looking for my taste.  I want something for a chopper, that looks like the pics.
 7075 AL  should work
