Do I have the correct plate/points? I think I am missing the correct bolt/pin and special washer. Is it a straight forward undo the bolt and swap in the correct bolt and special washer? Or just leave it the way it is?

The motor fires up and runs. It is a JDM 71 CB750 K1. Thanks

Thats all wrong for a 750.
1 should be a stud with O ring screwed into the crank
2 cant see if the cam has the two "tabs" on the end
3 no big special nut
4 nut to fit stud
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Another issue is: the bent condensor is likely shorted, removing spark for the 1-4 cylinders.

It looks like someone crashed on that side of the engine, broke the big nut that fits on the end of the crankshaft stud, and replaced it all with a long bolt. It will likely leak oil from the inner crank journal (under 60 PSI pressure) unless something was done on that long bolt to add a seal of some kind in the center of the crank journal?
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

Is it possible the ignition bolt is from a different year/model? I looked on around and it looks like the long bolt from an 81-83?

The motor runs quite nicely with all 4 cylinders firing so I am not sure what to do next.

Thanks guys. The smashed condenser is not a problem, I have new ones in my parts bin. My main concern is the missing/wrong parts, the motor starts and runs well as is. I am afraid to take it off not knowing what is involved.

81 was a DOHC not a SOHC

I know it is not a SOHC, the bolt looks very similar to what's on my motor and I am just wondering if the PO tinkered and modded it since he used the wrong headlight ears(CB500) with modded air forks. I am just going by the history/nature of his modding and guess that somehow the points/advancer was modded with something else.

The motor runs and sounds like my other 71 K1. I have ordered all the correct parts to swap out but I would like to learn a little more before I start taking off more parts from a motor that runs fairly well.

If it is just a simple long bolt surely the motor wouldn't run, right? There is no oil leak

If there isn't an oil leak, then maybe something clever was done to the bolt that is holding that advancer in place. That's always possible (especially is you know a good welder like the one I use here)!

That is what I am afraid of. Most of the time I follow the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", and in this case, I am scared to open the Pandora Box.

You don't think an advancer/bolt from another bike is at play here? Thanks
