clean it then dust the motor with talcum powder. this should show the origin of the leak.

these bikes sweat...

Mine from the shifter shaft which you seem to have as well. Not much, just a little and I'm sure a seal change would fix it. Yeah, not worth the trouble as its just a drop here and then.

Degreaser is written on bottles, right?
I use naphta that take grease, oil and tar (with brush) away, paint not harmed. 4L can to refill my 1L spray bottle.

Careful with some brake cleaners.  Some won't hurt finishes, but I had Rural King's store brand take the original finish off a GL1000 front cover a couple months back.  As far as the origin of the leak, it looks like it is just dripping from the lowest points of either side of the bike so it could be coming from anywhere.  Like someone said earlier the way the stains are dark in the center and clear but wet at the outside make me think fuel leak, like a possible fuel leak out the carb drain tubes and then the fuel runs along the underside of the engine and picks up a little dirt along the way.

The good news is it looks like the leak is above the head gasket. Maybe valve cover or head cover gasket.

Or breather cover in top of valve cover if not tightened or bad o- ring if any.

As a 32 year plumber and 52 year hobby mechanic I can say with authority always look above the apparent leak.

Would that have something to do with gravity Don?
