Rear shock bottom bushings
« on: March 20, 2020, 05:44:12 AM »
Hi guys

Hope everyone is in good health and weathering out the Corona craze.

Before installing new rearshock bushings (the ones in the rear of the swingarm, I wanted to be sure that I have the orientation right (can't really tell from the parts fisch). Can anyone tell me which side faces inwards (see attached), or does it not even matter?

Thanks!
Jonathan

+1 to first answer. Clean the tube and warm it with a heat gun. Freeze the busing and use lubrication, for easier install.

I read somewhere that the hole in swingarm is slightly conical so bushing will slip easier in from inside?
It was Hondaman and CB750  bushings.

I got them in, was pretty easy actually. However, the bushings on the front side of the swingarm is a whole other story. The all thread snapped when the bushings were midway in and by the time I got my hands on another one, the bushings warmed up and the swingarm cooled down. The second all thread snapped too (I was really putting a lot of weight into getting over the friction). So bottom line is this, I have one bushing which is 2/3 in and another about 1/2 in. I don't really see any advantage to freezing / heating up at this point so where does that leave me? I could try again with a wider diameter all thread, unless you guys have a better idea?

In USA?
If yes, send it to Hondaman.

Unfortunately not, would love to have had his help on this (and a bunch of other hair pulling tasks with this rebuild).

If they are half way in the only answer is a hydraulic press at a machine shop

And some pics of my mess.... What are the chances that a larger diameter all thread will do the trick?

Long thick fine threaded bolt with washers will not force it together when tighten it?
A press might be the way. Usually doing one by one I guess.

That worked - so more thread (larger diameter), more grease (on the remainder of the exposed bushings and on the thread itself), and more perserverance. Good to go now!

Thanks guys :)
