Front brake light switch missing
« on: April 02, 2020, 10:04:13 AM »
My 1972 Honda CB750 K2 with a K3 motor has had a lot of work done on it over the past decades.

The front brake hydraulic line goes straight to the caliper and the front brake switch wires are cut.  If I were to make this bike ADOT legal, how do I find the manifold which apparently interrupts the brake line and houses the pressure light switch.  I have been unable to locate this set up on line or in my Common Service manual.

Or secondarily, is there perhaps an aftermarket switch I might attach to the front brake lever to activate the rear brake light.  The pedal switch for the rear brake activated the light.

Or should I just forget about the whole thing.

Thank you in advance

They make banjo bolts with pressure switches built in.

You would also need to change to rwo flexi pipes with banjos
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

There are also master cylinders with a brake switch.

Thank you to all.

Apparently my "intense" research pretty much come up short.  I'm not surprised but I appreciate being directed properly.

Lots of experience here and I bow to your knowledge.

onward and now I must learn about banjo bolts and connectors.

Thank you again

My brake line plugs directly into the caliper-no banjo bolt.  Without getting too involved (this is obviously not an area I have explored), can I put the banjo bolt pressure switch directly into the banjo connector on the master brake cylinder?

Thank you

Yes, you use the banjo bolt switch on the master. BTW, where in AZ are you?

Just down the road in Prescott.  Thank you for the response.  This is my first SOHC project attempt.

This 78 master cylinder has the brake switch in the housing, actuated by the handle.  A little press-fit switch hidden from view.

Look at the 3rd picture on this auction.  It shows the switch on the underside of the master.

Thank you for the advise and help.

I feel the banjo bolt switch will be less invasive despite not being original.

Switching to braided stainless steel sleeved Teflon lines is a needed upgrade as your stock hoses deteriorate and start causing issues. It will firm up the brake lever and you will use banjo bolts attaching the lines.
