I can't believe how stupid this is. :-[ I was assembling the cam chain tensioner assembly and somehow one of the rubbers on the cam chain tensioner roller pin fell into the crankcase. And I was being so careful. >:( I looked in from the top and since the oil pan isn't on yet I looked in from the bottom too. I even looked on the bench and around on the floor to make sure it somehow didn't drop into the case. I'm thinking of getting a fiber optic scope so I can try to get a better look. This must have happened to someone else before so I'm looking for ideas. Anything so that I wouldn't have to split the cases.  ::)

Stuff happens so don't be embarrassed. Maybe some compressed air shot shot down the cam tunnel will get it moving downward if you cannot get eyes on it.

The rubber pieces that press into the cam idler pin ? (these are pretty big)
Remove idler and look inside with flashlight.
Not found, flip engine over keep level with block, remove oil pan and look.

The idler isn't in. The rubber dropped while I was installing it. Oil pan isn't on yet. I looked but couldn't see it.

I like that idea.  :)

That’s one way to get oil to the top end after a long layup. :)

I like that idea.  :)

It worked! ;D I fired up the compressor last night and 15 minutes later it was out. I blew from the top and then the bottom and then tilted the case around and blew from the top again and it came out. What a relief. That will never happen again.  ;)

Working on three engines at the same time, 748, 1490 and 1769. It's nice to get everything set up and do all three. Should save time overall. By the end of this coming weekend I hope to have the cylinders and heads on all of them.

I wouldn't have been close to this far without the easy removal of that dropped part.  ::)
