Out off the box 350 four resto
« on: March 31, 2020, 10:21:14 AM »
Bought a winterproject some time ago but since we are locked down i Got some time to spare. The PO started dismanteling the Bike and then it Got in the corner collecting Dust...
I startend rebuilding the engine for now. Since it is a 350 frame with a 400 engine i am not going for full originality. I also want to keep this one on budget. Thinking about cafe racer style, not sure yet. I Will try to post some foto's once i have figured out how to do that. I keep you guys posted!

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

Today ran the engine on the stand. Started up from first turn. Static tuning  wasnt far off. Minor adjustment needed to sync the carbs and ignition. No oil leaks! Happy! And forgot about the sound of these litle engines... awesome!
Try to post some pics/ video tomorow.

Congratulations, I would love to see how you did your bench test set up.  I contemplated doing that on my 550 rebuild as I was nervous about top end oil delivery with my combination of MLS head gasket that has sealing ridges as well as using the regular o-ring seals.  In the end laziness and impatience won out.  Luckily no problems but I think you were wise to test first.  Those 350’s have a glorious sound.

I'd like to see that test bench too.

I have a 350 I'm building and would like to get it running w/o having to mount it in a frame, of which I don't have.

Bench test is not that dificult, i made some brackets using scrap metal. Some switches, one for ignition and i use the bulb for oil pressure, one for the starter. Had the rev counter installed also as it's nice to have to tune the engine. The coils are on a piece of aluminum bolted to the breather cover wich i didn't install. Then the exhaust, i had to modifier the bracket to make it pass. Works fine like this.

Made a custum seat today with the foam of an existing seat, made to shape and then the sewing machine and simili leather. Leand a lot! Happy with the result.
