Really need some advice here...
« on: March 31, 2020, 05:50:14 PM »
Excuse the novel:
Well, just started the rebuild on my 76 CB750K. Yesterday I started the tear down on the engine, and just like pandoras box, surprise surprise: quite a bit of rust in one cylinder, and the others didn't look very good. I've attached some photos. I mic'ed them all up to be more or less 2.421in or 61.493. Putting it just shy of the 2nd oversize. Quite sure because of pitting, I would have to skip the third oversize and go straight to the 4th oversize: 62mm. Here's my trouble, it's been impossible to find genuine Honda 62mm pistons, and for what I have found as far as aftermarket goes, it's just about the same price as an 836 kit. Both available in the below link:
https://dynoman.net/engine/pistons/custom.html

I also found a wiesco set on ebay for a little over 500.
I really need some advice here. I have spent the better part of today researching the forums here and googling here and there, I just can't seem to find enough information as far as a 'guide' goes for doing an 836 kit. This isn't my first rebuild but I can't help but feel like I'm getting in over my head.

I am loving this project, just need some direction.

I don't like hot rod parts and prefer original parts (some like hot rod parts)
Pistons in several sizes on ebay -

Hard to go wrong with JE or Wisecos. At 4th over, you might as well do it right. you're paying for the machining, put quality products in there and get your money's worth.

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. That's my point exactly. I don't want to cheap out on anything on this build. Thanks!

To me, it just depends what you want.  Do you want the planning and compromises of a hotrod or the original experience and dependability of a stocker?

I feel that with all the stuff that's going into it, since prices are somewhat identical, I might as well go with the 836 build. I don't know where to begin though. The only bit I've garnered from my research is that I would have to go up on my jets  and look into replacing studs :P I can't find anything as far as a 'guide' goes. The search function here doesn't help much.
