Am I loosing my bearings?!
« on: December 19, 2019, 08:17:45 PM »
It's been a while since I posted anything here. Yes,  I am still working on a 1978 CB750F Supersport project I started 5 years ago. Life got in the way. Tried to do extensive research to not bother anyone but couldn't find anything close. So, decided this my help someone else in the future as well. Finally got the top end done with new rings, honed cylinders, valve seals, guides, gaskets etc..the list goes on.  I decided to rebuild the oil pump and when I opened the pan noticed some metal debris.  Split the case open and didn't see anything and decided to powder coat the case, why not.  In the process of putting it back together noticed some half moon bearing(s) are missing...or are they?

The following are areas of concern:

1. There is a groove right next to the bearing setting ring or output shaft/sprocket seal. Didn't see a bearing here but did have a mark which looked like there use to be one.  Could this be part of the debris I discovered?
2. On the Transmission countershaft,  I saw 3 ball bearings that have halfmoon bearings, Is this normal? It just looks odd.
3.  Does anyone have a clue where the debris might have come from?

Hoping someone looks at this and say I am just being paranoid (or not) but thought I'd ask before putting it all together.

Thank you in advance.
John

Is the debris steel or alloy and what model 750 is it?
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
