removed and cleaned the suspension linkage, these are a brilliant piece of engineering!its 33 years old!has a cracked up swing arm thrust washer,im guessing its a yammy only part not from a bearing shop?i just reused it at this point.

Ha ha, I love those needle roller bearing setups Dave, they're the gift that keeps on giving! (for Yamaha) My next door neighbour had an RM250 (long separate story) that the PO had used a pressure washer to clean meticulously. When he pulled the rear monoshock assembly apart, the needle roller bearings looked like rusty nails!

He went to the dealer and came back almost in tears, the replacement bearings were hundreds of bucks! I suggested that I make him some bronze bushes and for 30 or 40 bucks in material and a bottle of JD, he was back in business. Needle roller bearings are dumb for dirt bikes, and only marginally more useful in road bikes.

Yep, buy new brake shoes mate, they're cheap, and as you know, you'll be using your back brake a lot more than your front one when you're "King of the dirt"! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

needle rollers are fine Terry! just dont pressure blast em!theyll take way more more load forever over a plain bronze bush, these oscillate too much for a plain bush theyll get a hot spot, these are 33 years old and still solid, yammy seal em better aswell, suzy dirt bike suspension is good but not robust like yammys.
got the muffler repacked, nice n tight and wrapped with mesh, also used mesh in the end cap,has a recess for a spark arrestor, thisll stop wasps getting in?

it needs a battery from "jaycar" only 28 bucks, should have a roadworthy this week?i just wanna ride this #$%*en thing!for an old bike its pretty attractive?just out of interest the seller wanted 3500 for it,on the phone i offered 2800 sight unseen,he thought about it then rang that evening ok,it was a fair distance then once i rode it all popping and farting i managed to get it down to 2750,i thought not bad, these are a popular bike and like old hondas only getting harder to find still all solid, they dont make bikes of this calibre that you can road register anymore, when you look at them its a thinly disquised big fat yz motocrosser?factory showa forks and ohlins rear end nitrogen shock absorber, all slim and tucked in,no dash idiot lights etc.

i like these so much more over the xr of the same era,the 21 front and 18 rear is more "normal"than the stupid honda shorter wheel base and steeper rake and 23 and 17 inch dumb wheels, the tt never got as popular in the us im guessing because of its non compliance as easy as over here?if so you guys missed out on a great bike!and if your thinking XT,no!they wernt the same at all,the suspensions are way different, the XT is a road mannered steel tanked thing.

ha ha well i dropped it already!went for a short test run up my street,i could feel the front brake begin to drag then get heavier, real close to home so rode along our block slow in first gear against the brake getting worse,it locked on the dirt and went down right side, didnt stall i had the clutch in hand and lifted it back up still running, walked to my shed for a spanner and opened the bleeder screw and out shot fluid under pressure, better pull the master apart,or it was too full?no damage only my pride.

Ride that thing home on just the rear wheel next time Dave !! Sounds like a blocked bleeder/vent hole in the master or a collapsed brake line but I bet you already know that.  ;)

well hopefully getting a road worthy certificate in the morning, have a guy i know doing an onsite one,new rear genuine shoes had a surprise, new springs included!a lot to be said for genuine parts?the more i research on these things the more i find so many changes were made in the year models, these wernt real popular in the usa but im guessing because of their lack of road compliance so only a coulpla models usa?these aussie ones also have a few weird changes, dinky battery under rear guard for compliance, they had no where left to put it?mine has plastic head light with you beaut 25w/25w headlight works only when the engine runs and works great during a bright cloudless day!im keen to do a proper few hours on it shake down yet, once its got street registration ill feel better about venturing away from home on it,i want it reliable,no point otherwise.

well i got my rego done during lunch yesterday, was a lot easier and faster than id thought being on my 30 minute break it only took 15 minutes,in and out!screwed the plate on but only took it for a ride this arvo, around to a mates place for a quick "non contact visit"(looks like hed be a lousy kisser anyway!),dumbarse me had mis cued those speedo drive tangs but all good now, went the longer way home where i opened it up in 3rd/4th and 5th,its got some nice pull, runs sweet,i think its a little cam chain rattley?lucky they can be done without splitting the cases or dropping the motor, ill check the valve settings now its had a good hot run once cooled off,the 2004 dated tyres will need to be replaced as a matter of course ill just do a coupla shakedowns with them, its got those Mitas E-07 enduros on it.

the filters were MIA on the internal fuel tap and ya cant buy em separate,i didnt wanna run an external filter as they cause trouble and the fuel line is only like 60mm long anyway,so i sprung for a genuine new tap,you can buy copies bout half the price but #$%*ty zinc cast and get stiff and snap the lever off maybe?#$%* it im happier with a real one.

a little more fettling?the new grips prevented easy thumb action onto the indicator switch,a simple scissor cut all fixed, funny how just sitting on a bike all is well, then once its ridden the finer details come out?

the factory stickers on the tank were well peeling at the edges and looked #$%* so i peeled em off day one,the seller had new stickers he gave me,well?they wernt genuine and real old and already peeling off at the edges on the wax paper,it was like some after market generic kit with monocross and yamaha etc,the glue was half set etc,but i thought id try some spray glue on the incorrect tank stickers and they dont look half bad?it should read 600 where it reads yamaha, good enough for me,its only a dirt bike after all?
