yeah i rode the honda last week,feels a little lame now,yeah the yammy vibrates a little,not like an old twin though.

nah no jumps!i never liked getting too much air,ill hop it over stuff ok but those high jumps etc aint my thing,maybe 30 years ago?

Lol  Yeah.I didn't mean Jumps like that. I never had a pair of proper motocross boots.Those boots must feel good standing Up.

oh they aint stiff motocross boots,more of an adventure boot,lot softer but still water proof and good protection,only 150 bucks delivered.

well a quick fang today,should have new tyres this week so im keen to see any difference in wheel spin and rear braking,itll just blitz gravel roads at full speed the faster the better,i still cant believe its 33 years old and just goes like fury!and looking attractive all the way,had a few funny looks from folks on the main roads,you dont see bikes this trimmed down with road rego so it looks a bit sus?ive only ever seen and ridden my mates one years ago and this one.

What tyres on there Dave,the oem ?

ya better be sitting down,its got 2004 date code mitas e-07 front and rear!just dropped the new tyres off with the wheels at a shop to be fitted,new heavy duty tubes and rim bands,i decided to go with the same again(came with a bag of sweets),these actually work well on the pavement,new ones should only be better plus they have good reviews here n there,got a new genuine chain slider coming aswell only 14 bucks,this ones a bit rooted?

I though that was interesting that someone installed a small dia. piston in the tip of your TT600 exhaust    a first for me,Lol.
Does it quiet that exhaust;does it perform better with it installed or without ?

goes the same in or out i think but too loud with it out and did my head in after 45 mins,i dont wanna be anti social with it,it sort of looks sus on the road as it is?
got those tyres fitted,no more hover bike?is there anything milk crates cant do?,mates got a decent run planned for this saturday so new tyres are gonna be handy?hes into all the gps mapping gizmos etc,gonna be his tenere,another guy on a honda 650 dominator and either an africa twin or the bmw gs650 plus the yammy,its had a few good shake downs it should be all good for a long run,i geared it back up for this one though.

When you say geared it back up,how far,all the way ? Was that quite over-drive before ?

stock is 14 x 50 = 3.57,it had 15 x 46 = 3.07 and pretty tall,i kept the front 15 and bought a 49 rear makes 3.27 i was after a better off road 1st gear which it got but a bit too low on the open road?if was a trailered dedicated dirt bike id run 13 x 52 making 4.00,only gonna be fire trails not really in the scrub this saturday so went taller.

That 3.27 final ratio sounds good for what you'll be doing

yeah im gonna get a 14 front to use with the 49 thatll give 3:50,just a tad taller than stock,if i run it with the 46 thatll make 3:29.
put new slider on this arvo,too good to use now?

worked a little later today(dont mind a little overtime!),was hoping to be home early and set up the camera from the honda onto the yammy but not enough time to do a decent job,got a coupla easy finer details done though. #1,always use metal valve caps!the plastic ones will strip,the metal ones have a seal aswell and are a sort of secondary seal if the valve leaks i use these on the rear,and fit a metal valve core remover type on the front,#2,tow rope,in the day ive had two bikes go dead,both were the pulse pick up coil,if it happens where you cant get a car your #$%*ed untill you get a rope,ive towed and been towed five or six times over my younger dirt bike years,theres a trick to towing bikes,the tow bike the rope is tied on the rear somehow,the towed bike lead the rope onto the cross brace with one loop then across to the left grip and trap it under your hand,if you feel the need just let it go and your free,never tie the towed bike on!doing it to the left leaves your front brake hand free.

Wireless headsets between the tow bike and the guy getting towed would help also.

Good advise Dave. Back in my Desert racing days this is EXACTLY  how we did it. Sometimes you would have to haul the carnage 5 ot 10 miles. This system never failed. You can lash (wrap) your rope around the crossbar for storage  then just unwind it when needed.

bike went great,did 300 plus kays,6 creek crossings,steep rutted gullies,nice wide flat gravel power slide roads,got home just after dark,this things headlight is not really a headlight?its 25 watt and ac generator powered,the tt out drags my mates 660 tenere on the asphalt!the dominator went well but not well enough to dominate the tt!the africa twin was a bit of a handfull down that steep rocky gully,got stuck,no traction,and those water proof boots i got aint water proof!good cheap boot otherwise.

That's what I was thinking:those watercooled models,it adds a bit of weight.

through that gate the track forks left to the missing bridge,we took the right becomes a steep smooth rocky decent quite long then long up again back to easier for the africa twin track,we did bout 220 kays on dirt and 375 all up,he got stuck down there bout 20 mins,he had to rest got overheated was sweating,yeah the TT is more my style being trim,the other guys have those camel back drink packs and carry tubes and gps/bluetooth head sets/music playing etc,i just like the bare bones bum bag tool kit with 600ml water bottle jammed inside with the tools,i bought a cheap flannel shirt at a store was getting cold,the other guys bought a near wardrobe rain gear etc with them.
yeah i dont like water cooled bikes off road,more weight and service,might get damaged etc,each to their own,the dominator is aircooled,the big african and tenere are both water,heres one of the easy crossings,the big twin didnt have to activate the automatic bouyancy control on this one,but took a dive a bit further up,no damage.

Dave,While riding through the water it gives you 'a watercooled bike' Lol  . I can see the benefit of your much more 'trim' TT600 compared to the heavier XT600 Off Road. I think it's great that you can register it for street use !
How did those tires grip in the dirt ?
