Pesky oil pump shaft seal...
« on: April 01, 2020, 01:51:56 PM »
Rebuild the oil pump on my 1974 CB750 and I got to the point removing the small oil seal that is inside the pump housing. No matter that I've tried it's not coming out. I've actually ruined the housing trying.

I ordered and used pump off ebay and still have the seal to swap out but I don't want to destroy another one. Is there a special trick to get it out? Do people just leave it alone?

It's only my opinion but it seems like it was put in backwards.

The seal lip is facing down towards the inside. I really don't see how to get it out...

Nice job, Trigger! That's simpler than my approach. Gotta go find a tap...

Yes, we used to use a tap to pull worn starter bushings on vw engines, etc. works great.

Based on that same concept... wouldn't an appropriately sized easy out work, too?  ("screw extractor")

I think the flat bottom of the tap helps. The tap cuts a thread and pulls the piece upward as it turns. I don’t think the easyout would work as well.
