CB400F Koni shocks
« on: April 08, 2020, 09:18:15 AM »
Do koni shocks fore other CB four models fit on a CB400F?
I would like to replace the original and not working shocks with something better but
I don't have the budget to buy new koni/ikon ones. There are plenty of used ones for sale but
not for the 400F.

regards

May well be longer but would physicaly fit
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I was thinking the same but maybe some models use the same? I don't know,so I was searching someone who does.

Not sure about non-Honda shocks - and they often have different end connections - but as far as I know for Honda the 350-4, 350 twin, and 400F have the same length shocks. Probably there are others.
The other longer ones for the bigger SOHC-4 bikes will mount just fine but they are longer and the rear will be jacked up a bit. It did change handling on my 400F but I dropped the forks into the top triple a bit to try and compensate, helped a bit.
I think the correct shocks are roughly 12 1/4" long, 750 shocks around 13 1/8. Not a huge difference but chain tension varies with swingarm angle, and unusual length shocks can make it difficult to get good chain tension.

are the old original honda ones worth a rebuild an can they be rebuilded?
I thought they have to be replaced when broken.

Old ones can but it’s not cost effective. I think he thought you had ikon’s Already.
