1975 CB750 Carburetor Cleaning: *Throttle lever rod*?
« on: April 17, 2020, 02:11:01 PM »
Been taking apart my carbs on my build "College Project: 1975 CB750"(http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,182017.msg2107872.html#msg2107872), and the only thing I can't pull apart is the *throttle lever rod* (no clue what it's called). I've watched Hackaweek's carb rebuild on his '73 a few times through and saw his PO had drilled out the pin that keeps it from sliding horizontally. I've got some considerable residue gunking up the rod, but it still spins freely and doesn't seem like too much rust. Is there any way to remove that pin without having to drill/fab/etc.? If not I'll clean it as it sits:

If it moves free , I wouldn't take it apart. In fact, I didn't.
And when I put it all back together the carbs are still in sync, so that's a bonus.

I've owned many SOHC 750's since 1981 and have never had the need to take one of those carb brackets apart either. Might be more trouble then its worth. You can micro polish some of the steel a little to brighten it up. Enjoy the cleaning, easiest ones to do on big bikes, very simple and straightforward.

That pin is tricky to remove, and the 'repair' Honda listed for it after removal is to tap the hole with a 2.5mm tap and use a tapered-tip screw in the hole afterward, glued into place. Most of the racks had a little cover there with a screw inside and a seal or Cerrobend over the top of it to hold it in place, because the screw is not tight (otherwise the shaft won't turn). On ones like yours I have just dunked the whole ting into a bucket of gas for an hour and then hosed it off real good to clean it, then detailed it.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.
