73’ CB350F won’t start after sitting
« on: April 09, 2020, 08:32:46 PM »
Hi everyone, trying to get my 1973 CB350F up and running after a 3 year hiatus. Put all the fluids back in and installed a new battery and sparks. I believe everything is connected but guessing it’s not since it does not want to start. It’s turning over and squealing but won’t fire up. Anyone have any ideas of what the issue is here?

Cleaned the contacts?
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

When you say "sparks" do you mean you put in new spark plugs, or that you have checked for spark?

Spark, compression, fuel, air. Gotta figure which is missing. Did you drain the carbs when you parked it? Even so, I'm guessing you might have clogged jets. Checking spark is easier, however, as is compression if you've got the tool. I'd start there.

Oops sorry I should’ve been more clear, I meant to say that I installed some new spark plugs. Now that I think about it, I don’t think I drained the carbs before I parked it which means they could be clogged. I’ll take a look at both of these, with checking to make sure I have the spark plugs working first. My knowledge of motorcycle wrenching is beginner level so I’ll check out some tutorials on how to do this. Thanks!
