carb problems
« on: June 08, 2005, 10:24:38 PM »
I have the carbs off my bike and I noticed that the short rubber tubes that connect the four carbs have holes in them. Its the ones that look like there going right into the slide area of the carbs. On the end carb its a T shaped rubber fitting. It also is ripped. Will this cause the bike to run lean under light throttle cruising? Will it cause any problems? What exactly are these passages for? Do they have fuel or air going through them? I did not see any fuel leaks so im assuming air. But im not sure.

Its a 81 CB650 with CV carbs.

Thanks

yes of course!
If there is a vacuum then there would be a leak it there was a hole.

What tubes exactly are you referring to?
the intake runners or the bypass?

The tubes are the ones sandwiched between the carbs. There is a total of three of them and the two for outer carbs are less than a half inch long and look impossible to change with out seperating the carbs. The middle one is about two inches long and connects carb 2 and 3. One short one connects carb 2 and 1. The other short one connects carb 3 and 4. The one on carb 1 and 2 has a T in it and runs up to the airbox.

I think that you are looking at the vents for the float chambers. There is one thing that could cause problems with the float vents in this shape would in the summer there are different kinds of wasps s[some real small] that like to make places [they will plug them up if they can get into a small hole]to lay eggs. I do not know their life cycle ,but I do know that if the rig is sitting around a short time they will plug holes like that up[if they can get to them]. You need to repair this problem anyway to keep the dirt out etc. If one or two got pluged up I think it could effect the way it runs.

i know exactly what you are talking about. Mine were cracked and had holes in them too. I really think those were causing my probs at high rpms. I ripped off my carbs and they were clean as could be. I got the new "t" hoses from www.bikebandit.com they were 63 cents each
