Cb750 k7 wiring
« on: April 14, 2020, 12:49:02 PM »
Hi
I am a newbie and after a 40 year gap I have bought a cb 750 k7
To restore. I have got the engine running, ( carbs were cuddled up with a gel like texture).
My question is can anybody tell me what the light blue with a white trace wire is for, and can I connect all the greens for the lights together(not all to one but using any green wire to connect too.
Also do the throttle cables go between the frame tubes under the tank or do they go down the left hand side.
Once I have got the bike sorted I will be taking the engine out and doing a total restoration on it.
Finally where do I get full screw sets for casings and screws for bolting ancillaries on... mudguards, front and rear, chain guard etc
Cheers Steve

Blue with white is right turn signal.
Green is ground, so it shouldn't matter which one hooks to which light.

Blue with white is NOT the turn signal, it is the running light. Straight light blue is the turn. Opposite side is orange and orange/white

You are correct, my apologies, I had them reversed in my head.

Throttle cables go around the headstock, down the left side (under the rubber tank mushroom) and through the triangle brace on the three upper tubes....... make sense?

Thanks for the info. I was going to ask you where to get the books that you got the drawings from(then I read your email right through). The pic of your bike took me back 40 years it looks exactly the same as the one I had. Is there any pics on the gallery page of your bike. I can still remember the reg was RKY 501 N. That was the last bike I rode. So when I get this d bike done I will have do a bit of retraining and then go out on the road
Regards
Steve

Steve, are you still in UK? If so there is a UK version of this site and on it is an Alladins cave where one of our members has scanned a lot of my books and placed them for all.
Give it a try

Depending on your handlebar type the K7 cable routing can be different. With sport bars I run my throttle cables out the right side of the steering head through the frame triangle holes and by the coils. Doing it this way means less chafing near the brake light switch, choke cable and clutch cable which in my case run on the left side of the steering head. Keep the cables tidy, less congested with low rub when turning the bars,  employing large radius at any bends will offer dividends. Remember old bikes may have different length cables so follow good routing practices and ignore the manual when not satisfied. If you want some more pics just ask.

Thanks for that. Everybody has been so good in offering tips and help.
I will certainly be asking for help along the way with this restoration
I will be trying the best route for cables wiring etc.
Rite now I am just trying to get things working eg lights , blinkers, brake lights etc.
Then I will have to tackle the carbs Bryant helped me identify that I have the awful pd carbs, so I will have to take them off and try to rebuild /reset them, as the left carb is flooding and running out of the overflow pipe, and it is a bit lumpy when running
Cheers
Steve
