78 750F oil cap behind crank cover?
« on: April 16, 2020, 03:04:38 PM »
hey guys, so I just changed out my alternator cover that was cracked and leaking. Put a new gasket on that, and also around the crank/shifter cover. Came out this morning and it was leaking from the bottom middle bolt on the shifter cover, which it did not do before.  When I put it on, I noticed there was a hole right around where it’s leaking that didn’t have a bolt go through, is that supposed to have a cap?? never saw anything there when I took it off so I am kind of puzzled now.

The rubber plug isn't needed; neither my K1 nor K7 motors have them. If you look at the inside of the cover and gasket, that hole is completely covered and sealed off. If oil is leaking out from one of the screw holes, it's because someone installed a too long screw, punching though the bottom of the hole.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

I'm not too sure, when i had the cover off there was oil dripping out of the hole where the cap goes.  I will take the screw off to see if its covered in oil today and try to post some pics.  thanks

Pretty hard to tell much from the pics. Is it possibly coming from the neutral switch at the bottom of the engine with the wire coming off it ? Not rare to have those turn into a leaker.
