1972 cb750k2 cam chain guide
« on: April 17, 2020, 10:36:03 AM »
Can anyone tell me whether a cam chain guide for a later year k2/k3 can be used for an earlier k2?

The later version is longer and has a bit of a tail, and in the engine sits higher into the head.

Pictures attached and thanks for you help.

1971 K1 honda CB750 engines used the short style camchain guide and they changed it to the longer style as the years went on. The longer one will work, no problem.

Some of the K1 (New Factory K1) used the short slipper. It resurfaced again in the 1977/78 engines as well, because there is a blockage in the upper head casting that otherwise must be filed away to let you use the longer one. I generally do that when building the later engines because the chain runs a little quieter with the longer tensioner. The K0 had both long and short ones, didn't seem to have a lot of "reason" to it that I could ever figure out, though. All of the K2/3/4/5/6 engines will accept the longer ones.
