Newbie with first bike! '74
« on: April 16, 2020, 06:12:01 AM »
Hello everyone! I'm a newbie here and some of you may have noticed me asking questions here and there the past week or so.  I'm picking up where fellow member streak09 left of.  I picked her up last weekend ( he ALMOST backed out  ;D )

Recently moved to the Columbus area from northeast Ohio and needed something to wrench on, so here we are! I'm new to bikes and any help/tips along the way would be greatly appreciated, especially when I get to tuning the carbs.  I'm an electrician by trade so I'm hoping the electrical system won't give me much trouble but we'll see how that goes as this isn't quite what I work with  ;)

I've already got a lot of plans for this bike and hope you guys stick around. A forewarning I do plan on changing some things so bear with me, I hope I keep things going in the right direction because streak09 sure did amazing work to all he did to this bike!
I'll be working at a limited capacity until we move into a house, as you can see I'm working out of an apartment garage for now.  I'll be getting lighting and controls (m-unit) together as well as some odds and ends until then.

I've already got some goodies en route and will update accordingly.

Thanks! I've got a bad habit of not taking pictures.. Rebuilt the front caliper/piston today and upgraded to a phenolic piston! I put the hollow side facing the rotor so hopefully that's right,. Reading through other posts it was a toss up between hollow in or out.

Well, I just so happen to sell those.   https://godfferysgarage.com/
It's definitely hollow side out, facing the rotor.
If it was installed the wrong way around, the cavity would fill with fluid and potently expand the piston, risking fracturing it.  Also, having a larger fluid cavity is inefficient from a hydraulics stand point.
