v65 rough barnfind / build thread
« on: March 15, 2020, 08:04:39 PM »
Got an 85 v65 with 15,000 miles for a project, in very rough shape but the engine is free. Froze calipers, master cylinders, carbs, rust , oxidation. all turn signals broke. Flat tires, etc... Got my work cut out for me. I'll get beginning pics up soon.

  Anybody parting one out? :-\

I am pretty sure I have the driver's foot pegs and maybe a few more bits for a Honda V65.

 Sorry guys,
    85 Magna V-65 , 15,000 miles.
Preliminary engine assessment,  3 cylinders had good even compression, cylinder 3 down 40 psi.  Adjusted valves ( all were a little tight like it wasn't maintained).... no change , set cyl #3 at TDC and pressurized cylinder, rings / cylinder seal blowing air out crankcase. Been soaking in PB blaster for days.
Carbs were seized up and terrible shape, all slides and linkages stuck, chokes stuck, bought a nice set of professionally rebuilt carbs off Ebay.
Going to bolt up carbs and get it running so I can revv it .....hoping to free up the rings in cylinder #3 before doing anything else.

I have a bunch of turn signal parts for it and the driver's pegs.  The turn signal parts are usable, but not show quality. If you want this stuff let me know. It is taking up storage space and I'd like to see it used.

I got the engine running, ran it for a while through a few heat cycles and I cannot get that one cylinder that’s low on compression to get any better, in fact it got worse by 15 psi. I’m afraid I’m going to have to pull the motor. It seems to run great with no smoke coming out of it. The new rebuilt carbs seem like they’re working OK, I’m getting occasional pops through the intake while at a high idle and slight pop out of the left tail pipe every once in a while. I reset all the valve lash on all 16 valves prior to starting. And I know the low compression Is the cylinder or rings because when I pressurize cylinder you can hear it hissing through the crank case. Seems crazy to replace an engine that seems to be pretty much running fine and not smoking but knowing cylinder number three is 45 to 55 pounds lower than the other three is driving me crazy.
Any advice would be awesome! Please excuse any typos, are used voice text on my phone.

How does FREE sound? I don't need them and could use the space for other obsolete or unusual parts! LOL!  PM your address and I'll get them boxed and shipped ASAP
