75 750ss carb on 72 750
« on: April 30, 2020, 08:01:48 PM »
just wondering if a carb set from a 75 super sport will work on a 72 750. the original set on the 72 had broken "body" where the emulsion tube attaches. bike has stock air box  and open 4 into 1 exhaust out.

The set will fit and work. You may need to move your main jet from the old set to the new and do some fine tuning.

Why not just get a used carb body and fix yours ? Or get the guy that welds those to fix yours.

The 75 F carbs use a different needle/needle jet. If you have all the 72 jet sizes installed and the needle clip in the 72 position and it doesn't like the mid range you can also swap out the needle jet and needle.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Are there any differences in the carb body casting or the air passages that would be "not serviceable"? and if not , should i build the carbs as if they were going on a 75 super or for the bike ,"72 750 that I need them for? The carbs off of the "72 were stamped 857A and the set I bought to rebuild are stamped 064A.The 064A's had the needle seats w/ filters attached. I'm just trying to determine which kit to build them up with.

Try to stay away from aftermarket rebuild kits especially if both sets of carbs you have now have stock Honda/Kehin brass parts still in them. If it was me I would check the size of the jets in the old  carbs and if appropriate for your model  swap them over to the F carbs and after they are cleaned up put them on and give them a try. In my experience stock float bowl gaskets rarely need changing so don't pick them out, just leave them in place even when cleaning. As Jerry mentioned the needle is slightly different but you may not even notice it.
