77 550F tank and seat on a K?
« on: April 29, 2020, 09:40:01 AM »
As some of you may know and have read, sadly my tank was crushed at the machine shop I brought it to. Long story short it was there to be put in an acid tank to get all the paint off of it. One worker put it in and another worker went to lower heavy parts in and squished it. I have a 77 550K and have the chance to buy a 77 550F tank. I want to know how the F tank will fit and I also have a 550F seat. Will this work on the K frame? Pics if possible.

Yes, the F tank is essentially identical to the 77-78 K tank it should fit right up.

I think the F seat will fit dimensionally, but the hinge and lock locations might have changed on the 77-78 K bikes.

Thanks that’s what I needed to know about the tank. The seat I already know how it mounts up.

F tank is identical to K7/8 tank EXCEPT the petcock.

Cb550F carbs, 069A are fed with two tubes from petcock.

K7/8 PD Carbs are fed with one hose therefore petcock on 75-77 F models are different than K7/8 petcock.

Anything can be fixed and customized, as long as you know what needs to be done.

I had used a k8 tank on my 75F by using a fuel line T to combine hoses from carbs and then one to petcock.
Cheers
