EarthX battery
« on: April 30, 2020, 12:33:38 PM »
Is there a way to load test a Lithium battery? I am running the Moto-gadget unit with and EarthX battery, but I am afraid the battery may be shot. I don't know the history or how old it is, since it came with my project bike. Thanks!

To load test a battery, I usually use a 60 Watt car headlight. Starting with a fully charged battery, connect the load and monitor the voltage over time. Beware that with lithium batteries, the voltage will suddenly drop, and can go from 12V to 8V in seconds, so watch it carefully. My first very small lithium battery took about 20 minutes to drop to 12V.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Ok thanks, that would work.

I was wondering if I could also use my load tester. It's the Harbor Freight model which I believe is 50A. I used with AGM batteries for 5 seconds or so, to see how the battery recovers, but not sure if it's suitable to use with a small LI battery.
