Wiseco 836 piston ring end gap
« on: April 27, 2020, 04:48:32 PM »
Wiseco recommends .012 for the top ring and .014 clearance for the second ring.

I'm measuring .015 and .021, is this too large a gap? Should I get the next ring size up and fit them to the Wiseco recommendation?

I've checked with two sets of feeler gauges. I am taking the measurement one inch up from the bottom of the cylinders. The piston clearance is .002, double checked with a micrometer and bore gauge.

No, you don't want oversize rings. Those gaps are fine for Wiseco rings.

Does wiseco recommend you measure 1” up from the bottom?

Thanks Hondaman :)

Medyo Bastos, I just checked one inch down from the top and got .014 and .020. I thought it was recommended (I've been wrong many times before) to check from the bottom.

If using old bores (not a new overhaul) it is best to measure them near the bottom, because that will be the smallest bore size.
