more weekend reads
« on: May 02, 2020, 04:35:13 am »
well, was searching some pics for Riccardo and came across this...

Hipo old timers will remember that Mr. McGrew of M3 racing was a regular visitor until he decided to move to flat track around 2012. Had no idea that he went into modern flat track with a semi-vintage bike though, facing the new bikes with a 90's RS750 !.... interesting read, regardless of several controversies he was involved here.

Titanium rods and a crank filled with Mallory 3000. Interesting combination.

I watched Mac race and visited with Mark & Mac in the pit-garages at Daytona Bike Week in 2018..........They are competitive but need help with the rear suspension. I told Mark the bike had the most rear-wheel hop on the track. While in the garage I heard my name shouted-out and turned to see my dyno-tuner approaching. He was wrenching for the 2nd-place Kawasaki.

I've seen that crash before. It's a damn good thing it was filmed because there wasn't much sign anything had happened.

one of the more detailed how-to's ive seen from KC

Not that i fully agree with the process, but good practical tips along the way

Some years ago i bought this little hand held sand blaster gun,
It wasnt much good to clean rust but one day i filled it with baking soda and discovered that i had an excellent spark plug and carb cleaner. makes them like new!

Baking soda is good, no risk if enter the engine in small amounts, right? Rinse with water and blow clean.
I have soda and similar blaster I used with sand on clutch plates. My compressor is too weak. I'll try a friends tougher one.

More reading connected to carb jetting. Plug reading! Not palm reading or coffee...  ;D
Interesting how much data that can be seen on the plug, ignition included.

I have had some carb testing rides lately. Earlier experience is very rich condition on one throttle lift can hide another very lean and risk overheating, burning valves and worse.

Interesting information

EDIT: They express too advanced timing as "too much timing", retarded as "not enough timing"
