Hello Members! I just want to let you know that I have been accepted as a Member to this forum.

I am based in Budapest, Hungary. Recently imported a CB 550 Four F1 Super Sport (manufactured in 1977) in a good runnig condition. This is my first motorcycle, my only experience been just having a moped as a teenager many decades ago. It was a Babetta (Jawa 40) quite modern at the time.
I could not ride the bike yet too much as there are restricions due to the coronavirus. Not that these are enforced very strictly, but anyway, I tend to comply with regulations in particular when those seem rational.

I am looking for learning form experienced members related.

Firsat off, welcome from Texas and the Blue 550F club!

Love the Blue, the Euro turn signals and the original exhaust, now you just need the correct seat.

Thank you!

Can you pont to a source of information about the correct seat for this particular model? It is originally F1 for Germany, but the blue color came with the F2. Probably the exact seat changed as well.

Thank you in advance!

Here is my '76 with the original brown vinyl seat...

You most likely only need a cover...

It is a bit confusing for me because you can find original looking photos of f1-s with seat like this one in this article (the two oranges inside the text):
https://silodrome.com/brief-history-honda-cb550/

Anyway, thank you very much for the advice. You are correct, the frame of the seat is certainly original Honda.

Another problem for me is that underneath most likely the rearmost bumpers are missing. Only the two screws are there.

I would not trust that website, that bike is not totally original.  Look at the fuel line and generator cover.

The studs you have circled are for the tool holder, not bumpers. The rear bumper [1] is rectangular and appears to be on your set. [to the right and center in your pic above]. The tool holder would have wingnuts on those studs.

Thanks very much Stev-o!

The guy here also says that the orange version of f1 had brown seat cover. It is said that the strap has been optional. Also shows the tool holder.

Cheers!

There has been much discussion about it here, but I believe only the '76 [U.S] 550F1 model came with the brown seat, both orange and blue colors.

1976 CB550F1

The colors options for this model year were Flake Sapphire Blue and Shiny Orange. The seat covering was dark brown and instrument faces changed to light green with white numbers.

The above from the model guide:

Thank you very much!

So for my present blue version a black seat would be more appropriate. That color came with f2-s perhaps one year later.

One more question if I may.

I had to buy an aftermarket generator cover because the previous owner lost it. I also bought pushpins (davidsilverparts U K). A problem is that the cover fell of at a traffic light. Probably kicked if off. Fortunately I was stopped, so I could pick it up. Do you have any advice how securely put it on?

I would use an epoxy product such as JB Weld or the equivalent to affix it...

And how to remove the cover when needed? With heat gun? Or just by force?

Yes, I red your reply already at firts time. I ordered the recommended JB Weld, but did not yet applied because I am not sure how to remove the cover badge if needed. Did you try doing this?

No I have not needed to affix the cover.  The issue stems that your cover is aftermarket and the size is probably just a little off. Why would you ever need to remove it?

Is it not necessary to remove the cover badge if one wants to remove the cover itself  in order to have access to the generator? Three screws are covered by the cover badge. What is the function of them? I am thinking of  number: 9350006016 or  supersession: 93500060160A, number 9 on this page  https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550f1-super-sport-550-four-1976-germany_model17116/partslist/E08.html#.YbBK59DMJPY
On F2 the cover badge and the cover are integrated in one piece but in that case the three screws are not covered, made accessible from outside the cover:
product number: 9350006020  supersession: 93500060200A, number 7 on:
https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550f2-super-sport-550-four-1977-germany_model17124/partslist/E09.html#.YbBMS9DMJPY

The screws beneath the cover secure the alternator stator to the cover. The only reason you need access to these screws is to remove the stator from the cover. Normally you never do unless you are polishing or vapor blasting a cover or something like that.
So, not sure why you want to gain access to these screws.

Thank you very much for this clarification! So I should consider polishing the cover before, but after that, it is not a terribly large loss not having easy access
to those screws.
