Forgetful???
« on: May 04, 2020, 11:02:14 AM »
Working at my bench the other day and noticed these rubber bits hanging on a pin, right in front of my face......

Last Fall, I finished up my 1970 K0 in a bit of a rush, so I could take it to my first ever, Cobble Beach Concours. Had a great time, and won the Motorcycle class.

Just before the event, had a rough time getting the engine to idle sweetly, and carb sync took longer than usual. Starring at those 4 X rubber gaskets, a 1000 watt bulb suddenly flashed in my head. Haven’t checked yet, but I think I know why! Never pays to rush.

Thanks...... this year was scheduled to be for “Italian Motorcycles” and I was invited back (1975 Benelli 750 SEI), but just received notice the event is cancelled until 2021.

I've got a 1970 K0 but have not taken the 4 cable carbs apart yet. Do those 1st year carbs even use those gaskets ?

Ekpent...... funny you should ask! I started think about that AFTER I put up the post. I don’t think they do and the problem I was having was a small mistake I made installing the needle in one carb (found it several days later). I will have a look next shop day, in my K0 parts book, but I think you are correct.

Ouch! So true....... now I have to figure out why I left those hanging there.

I ALWAYS use a yellow zip tie on any component that is incomplete, not torqued, or needs a second visit. Those 4 X rubber gaskets are missing from one of my bikes (or I used the old ones). Will get on it tomorrow (if I remember!). Cheers!

We all keep stuff that may be needed, nice to have, or we wish we needed it.  Some stuff gets purchased and then not used for some forgotten reason.  Won't you be bummed after opening up a finished bike to find those were extra after all.  Tee, hee, just teasing! ...made you think!

I don't think those gaskets have any effect on how a bike would run...until it gets caught out in the rain
If it works good, it looks good...
