...and why are redneck jokes fine?
Is it because no one claims to be one or because they aren't as easily defined? Is it because they have thicker skins and don't get their panties in a wad over a stupid joke or when someone isn't politically correct? Or is it because they are too stupid and can't understand? Or is it because because deep down inside, maybe we are all a little bit redneck?
'Rednecks' usually classified as white people from the South or white people of a lower income are proably one of the most picked on, joked on, made fun of, etc. people in the United States, but you don't hear anyone crying or threatening lawsuits. I mean look at the comic section of your local paper -- Snuffy Smith. What do you think would happen if this comic featured Asians, Afro Americans or Poles and made fun of their lifestyle?
My point is not to defend rednecks, it is merely a wish that people could be a little thicker skinned and not automatically assume someone is a racist or xenophobe. Granted there is a fine line and defining that line is probably impossible to do because somehow, someway, someone is going to be offended, so you are probably correct that ethnic jokes should probably be left out all together, but your 'redneck jokes are fine', just made me think... and seemed a little contradictory.
