New member intro
« on: May 04, 2020, 06:50:34 PM »
Hello all,
So introductions.....
Name is Matt I am in East Texas (original South Louisiana native).  I had a bike for a short while when I was 15.....which is a really long time ago.....and I wanted to do two things.
1. get a bike to work on because I like them, and I needed a project.  Always like working on things but I am no master mechanic.
2.  find a project that me and my 15 yr old son can work on together.  He has become a gear head and wants an older car to fix.  Well I cant fit that in my garage, and cant afford it.....so we found a bike to get running and make it our own.

So this this Sunday I became an owner of a 1978 CB550!!!!!!  I will try to put  a pic up from dropbox if I can figure that out.

It is clean and pretty much most of the parts are there.  We drained the gas tank today and tried to charge the battery to see if she will fire but no go......battery is just not up to snuff.

I am no master mechanic but can figure stuff out (with some help).  Hopefully yall can help out because I will have lots of questions!  My son may also come on here to ask for help as well and to read up on things.

So I will ask my first one.....can yall recommend a battery?

Plans are to clean tank out with evapo rust, clean carbs out, and see if she will fire up!  I see there are already leaks around the head gasket....or it is coming from the exhaust pipes....so that will be something to deal with.

Anyway.....I will have lots of research to do!!

Welcome from NE MN,

Once tuned in and on the road, the 550 can do some serious miles.
