Hi All

After gleaning some great info from this fantastic forum, I though it best that I join up and try to give a little back  :)

In the meantime, here's a nice pic of my CB550 bobber - Not finished yet but looking lovely already

Welcome, Gavin!  She's a beaut, and I like the whitewalls.  One question though, it looks to me like you might slide right off that seat when cranking the throttle.  How's she to ride?

Hello from South-East Herts (well it's nearly London)..

Where abouts are you?

Nice bike like the whitewalls they always make a bike look special. I'm probably going to have my bike up here in Herts soon, at the moment it resides in Dorsetshire... :'(

What she said...

There's a bunch of us around here.  We meet at the Ace Cafe fairly regularly (it was freezing last week).

Hi All

Thanks for a very friendly welcome to the group! It's great to know there's a few locals around too as I mainly ride out alone. We'll have to try and get a local group together one day.

Also, thanks for the kind words and compliments on the bike. To answer the questions:

Based on a tatty '76 cb550, she's a complete project bike and not yet finished at all. Already though there's been some major mods and she sounds amazing with the straight open pipe!

The forks are the originals but the triple trees are custom fabricated from billet - done to widen the space between the forks and accomodate a much wider wheel at the front. I now plan to cut down some CB 750 forks and slot those in (or just use the fork bottoms)  to allow for a more modern set of dual discs and calipers to be fitted up front - already been reading all the posts on this forum regarding that.

As for the question regarding the seat vs. throttle... No idea how well I'll grip that thing but I'll tell you as soon as I've found out!

She's not properly been on the road yet, only to test a few bits. My plan is to get her on the road for spring/summer at which point I'll be sure to tell you just how well/badly she handles with that huge front tyre and modified front end  ;D

Still to do:

Speedo needed
Upgrade some of the electrics
Paint scheme
Modern dual disc Brakes/upgrade Forks
replace/rebuild the old Marzocchi rear shocks
After that I'll find more to do  :)

Welcome from Milwaukee, WI USA-across the ole pond!  How did you set up the dual headlamps?  Which ones did you use-what bike?  How did you mount and wire them?  Lots of questions, but man, that bike is beautiful! ;)
