Hello from Orange County NY
« on: February 11, 2007, 12:04:51 PM »
Got back into riding Last summer. I had not been on a bike since I graduated Hight School. Last Spring My wife, (Concerned about how much gas I was using commuting to work), suggest buying a Motorcycle. After searching the classified, and Ebay without much luck. I found My (future)76 CB750k sitting on someone's front lawn with a forsale sign on it.
After cleaning out the Carbs, and cleaning it up a bit, I put in on the road in Late July. I ride it to work almost every day, weather permitting. The next project on the bike will be repainting the Tank, side covers, and fairing, and cleaning up the paint on the Frame. I'll post some picks when I'm done.
Already have been able to make use of some good information here in the forum.

Thanks to all who have posted.

Not far at all. They hosted a Ride through the  Shawangunk Ridge last fall when they released their book. My bike was one of the oldest there.

Welcome!  I didn't know they have a book. ;D  I'd say it's cool that you picked it up and quickly got it into shap to be a daily runner.

OC, I am in Westchester and I get to Orange now and then. Usually go to Middletown to watch the races at the Fairgrounds. There is a lot of pretty country to ride through in Orange. I went over to OCC for the Eregon unveiling. Welcome to the club.

I know Westchester well. I worked for WFAS-FM in White plains about 9 years ago. Lots of fun going over the Tap.

Speaking of Middletown I worked for a couple of summers at Kutchers Sports academy (`91, 92) very close to Monticello and had my first American CB750 bike ride in this area - on my days off I would take a ride round the Catskills and ride over to Torrington, CT to see my g/f (working in another summer camp) -coming back at night was always interesting!

In fact I got a 70s sparkly gold open face helmet from one of the second hand shops in Middletown - stilll have it - show only  ;)

Im hoping to get back over this summer to see it all again - there was a very helpful Yamaha dealer in Monticello at the time.

cheers
Andy

I used to work for the Radio Station in Monticello (WSUL) during that time. I believe the shop you are speaking of is "Sagers". They are still there. I have not dealt with them, We have a couple of good shops closer to Middletown, but I know a guy that works there.

There are definately some great places to ride up that way.

Thats funny - its a small world. Yes it was Sagers - nice place and very helpful when I brought in a 1976 CB750 i bought from a policeman - all the bolts had siezed due to sitting for so many years -this thing was mint - see pic of it in Monument Valley - my first road trip in the States (went from Monticello to Cape Cod to the Grand Canyon and back over the Rockies to Missouri). We used to drink at the bars in Monticello - as British students we were surprised they had "free" hours - dont recall the name of the place but it was on Main Street, Moniticello - had plastic mugs I seem to recall. Great little town.

cheers

Welcome to SOHC!

How do you like that fairing?  I recently purchased a 78 CB750F with the same windjammer on it...

I can't wait for spring, but now I've been dreaming of reworking the bike into more of a cafe style. I don't know if I would miss the fairing though on my short highway trips...

Cheers Mate!
