Honda OEM petcock vs 4into1 replica?
« on: May 04, 2020, 10:07:27 PM »
I have a 4into1 petcock that I need to replace as the outlet nozzle is too small. Was only like 15 bucks and has worked fine thus far but I was wondering if anyone has used one of the cheaper ones and compared it to the 50 odd dollar OEM one from Honda. Is it worth the over 300% increase in price?

I bought a $5 off eBay and it lasted me 3 months. After 3 months it was getting harder and harder to turn on or off one day it just snapped and broke. Still was able to use pliers.

Every CCC [cheapchinacrap] petcock I've bought ended up in the trash bin!

Just buy the Honda part and be done with it!  [it's only $60, not $600!]

I myself have questioned the quality of Chinese consumer goods often enough, yet I hope that I will never sink so deep that I would use a phrase like yours. It's racist and xenophobe.
Yeah that comment was pretty uncool.

I'm sure you guys are all intelligent enough to get your point across without getting crude and juvenile. Keep it civil, please.

Being respectful isn't weakness or femininity.

Well, regardless, I think ill go with am oem one. Got a couple other purchases lined up and I'll probably miss that 60 bucks lol! anyone got a gently used extra laying around and can save me a few bucks?

HA I find it funny that any comment could warrant removal on this forum considering we have a 30 page thread bashing that guy from brookyln.

The threading is m16 x 1.5. But the petcock nipple is only 3/16 and is waaay smaller than the fuel inlet nipple on the carbs. I have to crank the line on with a hose clamp and hope it doesn't leak or use too small of fuel line and risk choking it for gas or splitting/leaking at the carb inlet.

Temporarily my workaround fix for that was using a small piece of 1/4 inch fuel resistant hose over the nozzle which I slid the larger fuel line over. Worked well enough but it's not the solution I want permanently.

Sorry btw for making you zoom to see it, it's the only pic I have of it and I'm not with the bike.

Now for a bonus question. Is it worth repairing an oem petcock? How do you tell and non-oem from an oem?  Like for instance the ones david silver sells looks identical to the genuine part.

I repaired mine with a Yamiya kit. Works great.
