Well.....good news.  I read some more and figured out the left and right thing.....same colors but no white stripe.

But....still no blinking.  Will put the old flasher back in and see if that works.

I can't look at your pictures, because dropbox is blocked at work.
Do you have rear signals installed? Did you get a flasher designed for LED signals?
You have to look at turn signals as a system, or really a left system and a right system with the switch and flasher relay as common components. You will get unexpected results if parts are missing.
Old flasher relays often stop working, either staying off or on, but not flashing.

I did change the flasher but not added the rear turn lights.  Will do that today.  Will see if something changes.  I will trace the system today more to see what is up.  In my reading I saw where if you keep the indicator lights stock then this will happen.  If we can't get it to work right when I add the rear I will pull the bulb on the indicator to see if it works.

After doing all that removing rust mumbo-jumbo would it be advicable to rinse it with gas with a little bit of oil in or just keep as until you add gas as normally?

Seems as there are a few camps on that.....clean and move forward with as is......or coat it.  I am gonna coat it with por 15 as that seems like the one that has the best track record in my reading.  I guess it gives me a sense of security.....but it might be smoke and mirrors.   Will see.

As long as there is gas in the tank it wont rust. If the rust wasnt so bad to begin with im guessing there is no real reason why to coat it. Im a bit sceptical to coat because of the fact that there might be more etanol in the gas further down the light or some other substitue. That is only speculation from my part and is probably when its time to restore the bike once again.

Took bulbs out of my turn signals......no go.  Off to rig up the rear to see if that helps.

Front will not blink without rear bulbs unless you have load independent electronic flasher...

Ok.....wired up the rear turn signals.....no go on blinking still.  But all light up correctly on right and left selection.  Removed signal bulbs again and still no blinking.  I am charging up the battery (because I have not lately) to see if that does it.  If not I have a diode coming in the mail......hope that works.

Do you have original wiring? If so look at the schematics and follow all wings related to indicators. Takes some time but it's important to have a good electrical system.

I really dont know if it is original or not.  I will try the fully charged battery.....and if no go then start tracing.

One thing to note.....the front running lights are not hooked up.  I had planned to not hook those up to lights at all.  Could this be an issue?

Also....I dont have a turn signal buzzer or horn yet.  Again....I am a novice and dont know what these other components have to do with turn signals. I just am putting all info out there.  I am studying the wiring diagram.  Seems the common comp oi bent to all these things is the handlebar switch.

Tried everything with a fresh battery and no go.

So I got a test light and focused on the relay I got from the auto store.....it is an ep35 flasher relay and says it is good for both LED and regular bulbs.  It also has three prongs which matches the wiring diagrams here on the site.  The test light was clamped to an engin fin for ground and used the pointed end to probe.

Turned on the key and had the light turn on with it touching the X terminal.  I would think this means that this has power going to it.  Touched the grey prong and the test light blinked and it made a  clicking sound.  Found the same grey wire in the harness behind the headlight and did the same......test light flashes ok.  I turn the switch to either the right or left and no flashing.....it is on but no flashing.....just like the signals themselves.  Took out the indicator bulbs and same thing.

Sounds like the switch not going to ground?  Any other places to check?

Sooooo update.....

Playing around with some things last night.  I was checking wiring and grounds and doing a lot of reading on other peoples issues but still nothing has turned up.

I was turning the switch on and off to check various things with the test light and all of a sudden everything worked!!!  That is the good news.......the bad news is that the only way it works is if I barly move the trun signal switch to the left or right.  If I go to the fully latched position then the lights just stay on and no blinking occurs.  If it is just barly moved in either direction then all works as it should.

What is up with this?  Again is this  a switch issue or some transiant thing where certain wires are contacted and it works vs the latched position?

I Had this problem after replacing the handlebars on my 75 CB750F!!!  Another thing to check, is your taillight working properly?  On the 750F, the power feed going INTO the tail light fuse (Brown w/Blue IIRC) is jumpered to the black power feed with a short piece wire.  IF you're in a hurry (like I was...) it happens to be the same color as the feed coming OUT of the turn signal wire and into the switch.  So, if you're unfortunate like me, and plug the feed to the taillights into the feed to the switch, this is one of the symptoms.

This is the reason (from what I could tell from reading the schematics).  Inside the switch, while the turnsignals are off, the headlight feed is tied to the front "running light", turning them on.  As you barely move the switch, your actually backfeeding the headlight feed into the backside of the flasher, through the lights causing them to "work".

Luckily for me, I was close to home and my friend followed me home (Closely) in the dark because this results in the front running lights, instrument lights, and tail lights not working, but Brake and Headlights working, and turnsignals "kind of working".  Barely noticeable in my rush to meet up with my friends, but Extremely noticeable when it got dark...

Take a close look at the wiring diagrams, and make sure you didn't do the same thing I did.  It took me the better part of an hour to find my mistake, tracing every circuit and confirming with the wiring diagram.  The problem is it looked right, until I noticed the different markings on the connector boots...

ok will do.  My front lamp is working fine......high an low beam.  I will check the rear break light as well to see if it is working correctly.

NOTE:  I posted this same question in the Bikes area......as after reading through things I am not supposed to use this area for troubleshooting questions I think and only for project updates.  I dont mean to double post!  I will try to seperate things going forward.

Just checked and rear light is working properly.....on in running light mode and gets brighter when rear and front break is pushed.

Also, just for info I do not have any of the running light wires on the front hooked up.

Success!!!!!!  after looking into the buzzer wiring and tracing out what is supposed to go where.  The PO had plugged the brown/light blue wire that was supposed to go to the buzzer from the switch directly into the black wire (jumping it I guess).  Dont know why this would have caused this but I am not complaining!!!!  I unplugged this and it works perfect now.  I will cap off the brown/light blue wire and leav it.

thanks for all the help!!!

off to derust the tank!!.....and get a horn!!

Horn done.....wiring tucked in on all the new blinkers.  Also, I was listining to it idle again and I noticed it did not sound right.  Turns out all 4 of the headders were loose at the connection to the motor.  Tightened it all up and all sounds good.  I also dont have the popping in the exhause anymore!!  I guess there was air getting into it and causing some issues......or exhaust getting out doing the same.

Soaking the tank in evaporust after a hot water and soap wash with a chain in it.  Will empty this afternoon to see where we are.  Man this stuff is expensive!  If all goes well I will rinse out with water very well.....acetone rinse......hair drier to dry out completely and put the por 15 in.

Coated!!!

Now to wait 4 to 5 days for a real good cure.  I will wash it out with gas a few times before I put it all back.

Next .....gonna put a different set which sets the rear fender look and lights.  I want a cafe style that can fit 2 people.

After that will be what to do with wheels.  Spokes are kind of rusted.  I will start to see what it takes to convert to a mag wheel cuz I like the look.  In the mean while going to go through the breaks and change seals, springs, and oil on the front forks.

Running into an electrical issue.  Turn key on and no lights come on.  Wiggle the harness under the key and it came on.  Took it apart and cleaned what I could and put some electrical grease in the white bulk connector and plugged it back into the key switch.  Was working fine.....still would cut out if I wiggled a bit.

Went for a short ride yesterday and all was good.  Went to crank it this morning and no power again.....and I wiggle wires and no go!!  Battery is good.....no fuses are blown.....so I guess I need a new key switch?

Found it!!!.....google and youtube can be good to you sometimes.   Took switch apart and the contacts inside were loose.  Took a flat head screwdriver and flared contact points out and followed up with a flat punch to mash them tight.  Works fine now........

Had good help!!

Trying to find a front fender.  From there I will start to plan for final looks.  The youngest wants complete stock.......I want a cafe style......we will try for something in between.

Been a while since I posted.....life, work, and hurricanes have kept me busy.

Things we have done...
1.  Rebuilt the front forks....easy and had a great time with my boys.  Again the WD 40 with Scothbrite works wonders in giving a matte finish.

2.  New break pads, seal, all new stainless hardware and new stainless hose to replace the stock rubber hose.  Was amazed by how much crud was in the system.....surprised it worked!

3.  New handlebars.....superbikes bars.  Only have ridden a small amount after putting them on but like them a whole lot....and with new grips is very comfortable.  New bar end mirrors as well.  I like the look.

Next will be top end job.  It is not leaking bad  only weeping but it bothers me.  After that I still need to sync the carbs.....has a hard time at idle still.  From there I will replace the gauges to smaller ones and repaint tank and covers to get a new look.
