CB750K1 "Keep on the road"

I recently picked up this CB750K1, while not really a project, I am learning maintenance and upkeep on this old bike. I'm fairly new to vintage bikes, but have some auto mechanic knowledge.  I will probably be posting a lot of questions,  as I don't personally know anyone with experience on vintage motorcycles.

I noticed the tach was jumpy at certain rpms.  First I replaced the cable which looked a little worn out. The problem persisted,  so I decided to try and renew the gauges. I wanted to keep the patina of the gauges,  so I cleaned, replaced seals, refilled the damper pots, but kept the original faces. I also put in some led lamps for the backlights. They also liked to fog up prior to my cleaning them.

The original tank had a red liner that was starting to fail. I searched for a replacement,  but I couldn't find any that were better than mine. Since I've never attempted to remove a liner, I had it sent out and they did their best to remove the old and replaced with a Caswell liner. I also added two inline fuel filters for peace of mind.

My next order of business was replacing the old tires from 2009. I went with Heidenau K36 and K44. I also decided to replace the wheel bearing, rubber dampers, sprockets, and chain.

It appears someone torqued the front axle when the speedometer drive wasn't lined up. So I've ordered a replacement.

Dropped the carb bowls to take look. Pilots look like original 40's. Mains are 100 with an "AB" on them. Should the mains be larger?

I swapped out the original handlebar to the euro one from dss. The low beam burned out, so I found a replacement headlight. I also adjusted the valves, cam chain tensioner,  and did a cold compression test. I also added the Hondaman key saver and headlight switch saver relays.

One nice ride. I’ve kept my K1 in much the same manner and it is the bike I ride the most. Took it out for the first run this year today. Are those K7/8 pipes or something some one built? They look great!

Beautiful work and love the photos/attention to detail. Very very nice! Are you in Wisconsin? If so you may be near Johnnie a WI SOHC expert with more than a few CB750s.

Keep posting its very inspiring!

Your bike looks very nice. They are the factory headers with Hooker mufflers.
I didn't know what they were until I seen some posted for sale on Facebook. I think I have a pic.

Thank you, the pics of the exhaust was a NOS set that I saw on for sale on Facebook,  unfortunately mine are not as beautiful.  I will most likely order some jets from there, I'm not quite sure on which sizes to order yet.

I decided to rebuild the master cylinder,  caliper, deglaze the front rotor, and replace the front brake pads.

The front brake must still have some air in the line, it's still a little spongy.  I ran out of time and I'll have to try bleeding it again another day.

I used these, I just had to remove some of the paint with sandpaper until it fit in.

Finally got the front brake all set. Reverse bled the line, it was super easy. Replaced this also. Glad to be back on the road.

Here’s a really anal tip, that makes a difference. When you finish bleeding, roll up a tiny piece of shop towel and jam it downthe bleed nipple. Wick allthe leftovers out, then spraying a bit of WD40. Install a rubber cap and it will be clean for next time!

I did the shop towel part, but I did not do the wd40 part. I'll do that, I also got the new replacement rubber with the bleeder.  Thanks for the tip!
