There is a problem with the return spring,imo.

I remembered that I do have a blue headlight shell for a Honda CB100 that has a chip and a crack plus a wiring harness complete.I also have both chrome 1975 CB125S headlight mounts/tins:those parts can be adapted to fit.

I remembered that I do have a blue headlight shell for a Honda CB100 that has a chip and a crack plus a wiring harness complete.Those parts can be adapted to fit.

The harness is intact but needs a bit of tape in the middle;with that CB100 harness you can get the earlier version CB100/125S ignition key switch that mounts underneath your tank,I believe the mounting holes are already on your frame.
I purchased a 1980 CB125S with very low miles similar to yours and got it registered in VT. even though I was living in PA. at the time,no sweat.

Oh nice! Yeah that's perfect. I planned to just sorta cobble something together using a scrap wiring harness for a cb750. At least I would have all the correct colors for donor wires lol. But a harness would be great if it means the whole thing will be a little less janky.

The harness has some corrosion on a few of the metal contacts just so you know.You want pics ?

Here's the harness,and the headlight bucket:the plastic needs repair,a couple cracks.
You'd need to get the 1st gen. headlight to fit this bucket,it mounts to the bottom with one screw.

The blue headlight bucket may be a bit wider than the original and if so may need wider mounts,these are 1975' CB125S 1st gen. mounts.The blue headlight shell measures 6 1/8" from side to side between the mounts,although you will need another way to mount the speedometer if you remove the stock bracket.

The thing is,changing these parts over will keep it from that original look..  :D

The kickstarter is a ratcheting mechanism,it will move up and down even if the top-end of the engine is seized.Have you moved the gear shifter through all the gears including neutral,then tried rolling the bike a little through each gear ?

I actually haven't done a whole lot other than clean up the brake drums and exhaust and clean things. I ordered the wrong ignition coil and then got distracted by riding my 750 I just got the right coil for the bike and a battery today so tomorrow the battery should be charged up and I can start working on patching together a wiring harness that'll work!

I'm also struggling to find an intake boot for it so I'm probably going to have to run a pod. Not looking forward to messing with the carb tuning on that.

Being distracted by riding is a good reason for not wrenching!

I got pulled from wrenching on my project bikes by having to work on my 1988 Chevy Cheyenne 3500, then my 1994 Ford F-350, and now my 2001 Subaru Outback VDC. Still have to pull the valve covers and oil pan to replace the gaskets, and the front cover off the engine to check the timing chains and associated parts before I can put it back on and put the engine back into the car.
I used to think it was fun to work on cars, but not so much any more. Honda motorcycles are much more fun, and easier.

Looking forward to your progress updates, but you certainly should continue to have fun riding when the opportunity presents itself!

Have you searched for the rubber air filter boot on Ebay under "Honda CB125 used" ? there may be one in all those parts.  or try using the part# for it on Ebay.

Yeah I agree, I honestly dislike working on cars. It's big, cumbersome, everything is cramped together.. I could go on. I had to swap the radiator out on my 2012 Ford Focus last week and it was awful. I'm definitely okay with bikes though. Don't need a lift and typically don't need to lay on the ground lol.

I've spent an hour or two looking through listings and haven't had much luck. I ordered a pod filter just for testing purposes and my oem coil and condenser will be here in a few days. I'm hoping to get the 125 up and running! I'll make sure I let you know

This link may work. He's relisting it for me. It's actually from a 1980. I decided to buy it. It's not cracked or damaged. He says it's in nice shape. I'll clean it up and soften it if necessary

The part looks like it's acceptable.I can't read the side of it whether it's says '383' molded into it as it should.The 1984-5' picture of a red newer model kind of messed me up,hard to tell whether it'd for that bike or the 1980.Looks like there's more pics of the airbox,so it's probably a 1980' part.

The airbox looks just like mine. I'm not sure how similar they were but it almost looks like that tank doesn't go with that model of CB125 but it's hard to tell. I can only see the "198" of the date stamp
