CB550 Top end rebuild
« on: May 09, 2020, 08:50:17 AM »
Hi All,

In the process of stripping back the top end of my K3 CB550. Not going too badly until I encountered a bent inlet valve on #1 cyl which probably explains the power loss problems I was getting. Will the guide need replacing as well or might it still be OK? Also I noticed that some of the large valve springs had 2x shims under them. Is this to compensate for weak springs or do you think the PO couldn't count?

I think the PO was a moron, there is a warning on how to fit the cam cover without bending valves in the manual and excess shims is just carelessness!
Insect the guide carefully for cracks/breaks and see what play there is with new valve
